20-year-old man kills father in Jigawa

Police in Jigawa State have arrested a 20-year-old man, Muhammad Salisu, for allegedly killing his biological father.

The incident occurred on Monday night in Bakin Kasuwa Quarters, Sara District, Gwaram Local Government Area.

Witnesses told DAILY POST that family members discovered the victim, Salisu Abubakar, in a pool of blood.

He had sustained multiple machete wounds across his body, including his chest, neck, and shoulders.

Family members rushed him to a nearby hospital, where doctors confirmed him dead on arrival.

The police spokesperson for Jigawa State Command, SP Lawan Shiisu Adam, confirmed the incident in an official statement.

He said the police received a report around 10:00 am on Monday, May 5, 2025.

“Preliminary findings show that the suspect attacked his 57-year-old father with a machete,” SP Shiisu stated.

Police officers from Sara Division immediately mobilized and arrived at the crime scene.

They evacuated the victim to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Birnin Kudu, for emergency treatment.

Doctors at the FMC later confirmed that the victim had died from his injuries.

Authorities handed over the body to the family for burial according to Islamic rites.

The police arrested the suspect at the scene and recovered the alleged murder weapon.

SP Shiisu said the motive behind the attack remains unclear but is under investigation.

The Commissioner of Police in Jigawa, CP AT Abdullahi, has ordered a full-scale investigation.

He directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Dutse.

Investigators will conduct a discreet inquiry to determine the cause of the domestic violence.

Police said the suspect will be arraigned in court after the investigation is complete.

They assured the public that justice will be served according to the law.

The case has shocked residents of Gwaram, who described the incident as tragic and unexpected.

Local leaders have called for calm and urged families to resolve conflicts peacefully.

The State Police Command reiterated its commitment to maintaining law and order.

It also encouraged residents to report signs of domestic violence before they escalate.

The investigation remains ongoing as authorities gather more evidence and testimonies.
