2025 Press Week: NUJ, Patriots For Soludo Showcase Skills In Novelty Match

(NUJ) Anambra State Press Week novelty match officially kicked off in grand style with a highly anticipated novelty football match.
The game between NUJ and the Anambra Patriots for Soludo was played on Monday August 25th 2025 at the St. Patrick’s Cathedral Field, Awka.
The Member representing Njikoka two Constituency at the Anambra State House of Assembly, Dr. Jude Akpua while speaking before the kickoff, praised the initiative as a unifying event that blends civic engagement, physical fitness, and journalism in service of democracy and good governance.
Hon. Akpua who is the Deputy Majority Leader of the House, commended NUJ for promoting community development through sports while reaffirming his commitment to youth empowerment and media collaboration.
“This novelty match is more than just a game, it’s a celebration of teamwork, civic responsibility, and shared vision for a better Anambra,”. Akpua remarked.
The Chairman of NUJ, Anambra State Council, Comrade Odogwu Emeka Odogwu, PhD, in his speech said the objective of the novelty match is to promote unity.
Dr. Odogwu maintained that the 2025 NUJ Press Week continues with a lineup of public lectures, health outreach programs, award ceremonies, and a Man of the Year event.

the Anambra Patriots defeated NUJ team 1–0, earning bragging rights and setting a vibrant tone for the weeklong Press Week festivities.
Also, in attendance were dignitaries from the media, civil society, and political circles, who lauded the event as a symbol of unity and peaceful engagement in the build-up to the 2025 political season.
