2027: APC Rules Out Automatic Ticket for Tinubu

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has clarified that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will not receive an automatic ticket for the 2027 presidential election, despite a wave of endorsements from senior party leaders.
Speaking at a media briefing on Wednesday at the APC national secretariat in Abuja, the party’s National Organising Secretary, Mr. Sulaiman Mohammad Argungu, stressed that the APC will maintain an open and competitive nomination process.
He noted that while the National Working Committee (NWC), the Progressives Governors Forum led by Governor Hope Uzodinma, and the leadership of the National Assembly under Senate President Godswill Akpabio have all expressed confidence in President Tinubu’s performance, the party would not shut the door on other aspirants.
“As a democratic party, we cannot deny anyone the right to contest,” Argungu said. “Once our timetable is released, anyone interested in the presidency under APC will be free to purchase nomination forms and take part in the primaries.”
Argungu dismissed speculation that APC might adopt the approach of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in 2014, when then-President Goodluck Jonathan emerged as the sole candidate. He insisted that, while the ruling party continues to rally behind Tinubu, it will not foreclose ambitions of other members ahead of 2027.
