27-year-old woman fatally shot by boyfriend

Family members, friends, and advocacy groups are demanding justice for Zakithi Zasemhlungwini Ndaba, a 27-year-old South African woman allegedly shot and killed by her boyfriend, Aviwe Poswa.
According to Women For Change, Zakithi, a journalism and media studies graduate who later pursued a culinary career, was found dead in her apartment in Sunninghill, Johannesburg, on March 7, 2025.
Her family had grown worried when they could not reach her, and their worst fears were confirmed when security operatives from her apartment complex discovered her lifeless body.
Poswa fled the scene but later surrendered to the South African Police Service (SAPS) on March 16.
His bail hearing is scheduled for March 20 at Alexandra Court, Room 1, Johannesburg.
A close friend, Sibusisiwe Busie, revealed that Zakithi had attempted to end the relationship, but Poswa allegedly threatened to take their child away with his family’s support.
“Zakithi tried to leave Aviwe, but he threatened to take her child away. This was part of his plan. If you are a victim of Aviwe or know someone who is, please come forward — your voice matters. We must stand together for Zakithi,” Busie wrote.
Zakithi’s unfortunate death has reignited calls for stricter measures against domestic violence and femicide in South Africa.
Advocacy groups are urging authorities to enhance efforts to protect vulnerable individuals and secure justice for victims.
Zakithi leaves behind a grieving family and a young child.
She is remembered as a kind and vibrant soul whose life was cut short by senseless violence.
