31 Bills, 72 Resolutions Has Been Passed In Two Years : Anambra Speaker ‘Udeze

Anambra State House of Assembly Speaker, Rt. Hon. Somtochukwu Udeze says thirty one (31) bills and seventy two (72) resolutions has been passed in two years.

Speaking in a press briefing on Wednesday in his office ahead of the two years anniversary of the 8th Assembly, Udeze described the legislative agenda as people-oriented aimed at enacting laws that create meaningful impact across the state.

Rt. Hon. Udeze highlighted landmark legislations such as the Local Government Administration Law which, despite initial criticisms, has been adopted by some states and the Homeland Security Law, which has contributed to the state’s fight against crime.

The Speaker said the Assembly also looked into the Electricity Bill and Anambra State Development and Investment Corporation Law, which would make it difficult for any future administration to derail the state’s investment priorities.

” We agreed that we will target laws that will make impact. We took time and looked at the laws passed in the state and access how impactful they have being to ndi Anambra’.

” Majority of those laws are Executive bills while eleven are private bills sponsored by lawmakers’.

” I commend the members of the 8th Assembly for their dedication and commitment. Seeing the type of laws and resolutions passed, members have added their voice to show concern to the feelings of their constituents’. The Speaker said.

Acknowledging some challenges within the Assembly, including the need for better office space for staff, Udeze noted that Governor Chukwuma Soludo has promised to address the issue, though the Legislative Complex had been renovated with the ongoing landscaping while stating that discussions are still ongoing to ensure full legislative autonomy for the Assembly.

” Some of the challenges have been taken care of by Governor Chukwuma Soludo who has promised to construct additional administrative building so that the staff will have more condusive environment to work”.

Speaking on constituency engagement, the Speaker emphasized that lawmakers have maintained strong ties with their constituents through town hall meetings, skill acquisition programs, and health insurance initiatives and expressed confidence that, by the end of their tenure, the Assembly’s achievements in lawmaking, representation, and legislative reforms would make the state proud.

” The 8th Assembly members have been in constant contact through interacting
with their constituents.

“Majority of the lawmakers engage engage their constituents with skills acquisition and also register many with the state insurance scheme and scholarships. By the end of our tenure, the state will be proud of what the members has done”.

Rt. Hon. Udeze also maintained that there is cordial and effective synergy between the legislative and executive arms of government in Anambra State which has enabled good governance to thrive.

” The administration of Governor Chukwuma Soludo is ‘one people, one agenda’.

“There is no need for conflict because our assignment is lawmaking, oversight and representation and in the past two years, that collaboration has established a good relationship with the executive.

” As lawmakers, we are doing our own little contribution in seeing that the state is moving. The relationship is good and we are working together”. Udeze concluded
