6 killed in Anambra ghastly auto crash


Six people were feared dead and several others injured after a truck lost control and crashed into pedestrians at the Upper Iweka axis of Onitsha, Anambra State.

The incident occurred on Saturday night around 9pm.

SP Tochuwku Ikenga, the spokesman of Anambra State police who confirmed the incident, revealed that police operatives cordoned off the area to maintain order and facilitate investigation into the crash.

He said, “Eyewitness accounts suggest that the crash resulted from a truck losing control and ploughing into pedestrians, two tricycles, and a commercial bus filled with passengers.”

Ikenga added that “some of the injured individuals are currently receiving treatment in the hospital, while the deceased have been taken to the morgue. Relatives of the victims have been contacted and briefed about the incident.”

The command expressed its condolences to the families and friends of the deceased and wished a swift recovery to the injured.

However, the command urged drivers to conduct thorough checks before taking to the road.
