Abia police kill six kidnappers, rescue four victims

The Abia State Police Command has successfully neutralized six kidnappers during an intense gun battle in Osisioma Ngwa LGA.

This development was disclosed by the Commissioner of Police, Danladi Isa, during a press conference held Saturday evening at the Government House, Umuahia.

The operation, which took place on Friday, underscores the state’s renewed efforts to combat criminal activities under the leadership of Governor Alex Otti.

Kidnapping Incident and Police Response

Commissioner Isa reported that armed men abducted the victims around 8 p.m. last Sunday, March 9.

The incident occurred along Umuahia New Road in Aba, marking a concerning escalation in local security challenges.

The kidnappers reportedly intercepted their targets and transported them to an undisclosed location.

Acting swiftly, the police tactical team, aided by advanced technology provided by Governor Otti’s administration, traced the criminals to a hideout in Osisioma Ngwa.

“When we located the kidnappers’ den and attempted to secure the premises, our operatives came under heavy gunfire,” the Commissioner explained.

“In the ensuing exchange of fire, six of the kidnappers were neutralized, while others managed to escape with bullet wounds.”

The operation also led to the recovery of critical items, including six AK-47 rifles, six magazines, and 32 rounds of ammunition.

The rescued victims were unharmed, a testament to the precision and professionalism of the police team.

Governor Otti’s Stance on Criminality

Governor Alex Otti, who was present at the press briefing, commended the police for their bravery and effectiveness.

Hwereaffirmed his administration’s zero-tolerance stance on Abia State crime, vowing to reclaim all areas from criminals. He stressed accountability for enablers.

Furthermore, he ordered demolishing the Osokwa Osisioma Ngwa house used for kidnappings and hostage storage. “Criminals lose operational bases here,” he declared.

Additionally, authorities will identify and prosecute the landlord, firmly warning property owners against harboring criminals. “Complicity guarantees consequences,” Otti asserted.

Meanwhile, Governor Otti instructed the Local Government Commissioner to consult the community’s traditional ruler, strengthening grassroots intelligence networks.

To bolster security, he prioritized deploying advanced technology and improving inter-agency coordination statewide. “We’ll outpace lawlessness,” he pledged.

Thankfully, all victims were rescued unharmed. Otti promised rapid, forceful responses to future attacks, assuring residents of sustained vigilance.

This decisive action marks a critical step in Abia’s anti-crime campaign, signaling zero tolerance for destabilizing forces.

“For four individuals to be held in a community for several days, someone must take responsibility,” he stated.

“The successes recorded in this operation demonstrate that our efforts in bolstering security are paying off,” he said.
