Bode George Reveals How Wike’s Public Criticism Sparked Rift with Governor Fubara

A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Bode George, has shed light on the deepening political crisis between Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike.

Bode George Reveals How Wike's Public Criticism Sparked Rift with Governor Fubara

Speaking during an interview on Nigeria Info FM, George explained that the fallout stemmed from a breakdown in communication and growing frustrations over Wike’s persistent public criticism of Fubara. He revealed that the governor confided in the PDP Board of Trustees about how Wike, now the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, would often attack him on radio and television rather than handling issues privately.

According to George, the rift began when Governor Fubara expected his predecessor and political ally to engage him directly on governance matters, especially when decisions or approvals were made. However, instead of reaching out, Wike allegedly chose to blast the governor publicly, further straining their relationship.

George quoted Fubara saying, “On every occasion when he made certain administrative approvals or resolutions, he expected his friend to call and either express interest or not. But rather than doing that, Wike kept blasting him on radio, television, and other platforms.”

The elder statesman stressed that the governor felt belittled by the constant public attacks, insisting he was not a political neophyte or a mere steward but a leader in his own right. Fubara reportedly believed that such disagreements should have been resolved privately for the interest of Rivers State instead of becoming media spectacles.

The lingering feud between Wike and Fubara has continued to unsettle the political atmosphere in Rivers, despite several attempts to broker peace. The power tussle between the two heavyweights, once allies, now threatens to reshape the political landscape of the oil-rich state.
