Fabrizio Romano Here We Goes Man United agreement with Diego Leon

Transfer market guru Fabrizio Romano reveals Manchester United have an agreement in hand to sign 17-year-old Diego Leon.

The Red Devils are working on bolstering their youth ranks as Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS would like to stray away from the extravagant spending that characterized the club’s market strategy over the past few years. This policy left the club in a delicate financial situation, and it surely hasn’t bore the desired results on the pitch.

Therefore, the management is now seeking young and affordable profiles whom they could turn into top stars in the future.

As reported earlier this week, the Premier League giants set their sights on Leon who has been making waves in Paraguay. The teenager has already established himself as a regular starter in the senior team of top-flight club Cerro Porteno. He made 19 assists in the league this season, scoring two goals in the process.

Moreover, the youngster primarily plays at left-back, a position that United need to bolster, especially amidst Luke Shaw’s recurring injury nightmare.

Manchester United strike agreement with Cerro Porteno over Diego Leon

According to Romano, Man United have struck an agreement with the Paraguayan club over the left-back’s in the summer of 2025. The operation should cost the English side around €5 million, but the figures could rise to €8M or €9M due to performance-related bonuses.

“Manchester United reach verbal agreement to sign 17-year-old Paraguayan left-back Diego León from Cerro Porteno, here we go!” posted the famous Italian journalist on his official X account.

“The Initial fee will be $4m plus $1m easy add-ons and over $3.5m based on the player’s/team future performances. Diego León will arrive in July 2025.”

Thanks to Romano’s trademark “Here We Go”, United fans will rest assured that the teenager will eventually pen his contract with the club, but it remains to be seen if this move will prove to be a shrewd piece of business on INEOS’ part.
