South-West PDP vows to reclaim Ekiti, Ondo in new leadership era

Ibadan, Nigeria – April 17, 2025 – The newly elected South-West zonal executives of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have vowed to reclaim Ekiti and Ondo states from the All Progressives Congress (APC) before their tenure ends.
Kamorudeen Ajisafe, the re-elected zonal chairman, made this bold declaration during his acceptance speech at Theophilus Ogunlesi Hall in Ibadan.
He emphasized the party’s determination to expand its influence across the region.

Currently, only Oyo and Osun states are under PDP control, while Lagos, Ogun, Ekiti, and Ondo remain APC strongholds.
Ajisafe expressed unwavering confidence that the PDP would secure more gubernatorial seats under his leadership.
He assured party members of his commitment to upholding the party’s vision, stating, “We will serve diligently and ensure more South-West states embrace the PDP before our term concludes.”
The election, monitored by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), also saw Muyiwa Obagunwa re-elected as zonal secretary and Bose Adedibu, widow of late political icon Alhaji Lamidi Adedibu, as woman leader.
Other key officials included Adeyemo Adetunji (treasurer), Yaya Adeleke (financial secretary), Atofarati Olusanya (publicity secretary), and Bamidele Seyi Abiola (youth leader).
The event drew prominent PDP figures, signaling strong internal unity.
Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, alongside Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke and former PDP leader Bode George, led a high-powered delegation to the congress.
Makinde highlighted the event’s significance, noting how far the party had come since its previous divisions.
“Four years ago, we were divided, but today, we stand united,” he declared.
“This congress demonstrates true democracy, and the South-West is setting the standard.”
Both Adeleke and George praised the seamless organization of the election, calling it a testament to the party’s cohesion.
George, who announced this as his final public appearance, reaffirmed his loyalty to the PDP.
Meanwhile, former Akwa Ibom Governor Udom Emmanuel, head of the Electoral Committee, commended delegates for their orderly conduct, stressing the importance of transparency in the process.
As the PDP begins this new phase, optimism fills the air. Party members believe the re-elected leadership will strengthen their foothold in the South-West, potentially flipping APC-held states.
With unity and strategic planning, they aim to reshape the region’s political landscape while upholding democratic values.
In summary, the South-West PDP has set ambitious goals for the coming years.
By fostering solidarity and maintaining a clear vision, they hope to regain lost ground and solidify their influence.
The journey ahead is critical, but with determination, they are poised to make significant strides in Nigeria’s political arena.
