NEMA Commits to Proactive Flood Preparedness in Nigeria

April 17, 2025 – Abuja, Nigeria- The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has reinforced its dedication to anticipatory flood action through decisive measures.
Speaking at a high-level workshop on April 16, 2025, Director-General Mrs. Zubaida Umar stressed the need for early intervention.
The event, held at the JIB Hall, Office of the National Security Adviser, brought together key stakeholders to address escalating flood risks.

Representing Mrs. Umar, Director of Relief and Rehabilitation Alhaji Abdullahi Usur emphasized proactive strategies to mitigate disasters.
Notably, Vice President Senator Kashim Shettima, National Security Adviser Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, and the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs attended, highlighting national unity in disaster management.
Mrs. Umar asserted, “Early action is non-negotiable—we must engage communities, strengthen warning systems, and adopt inclusive planning.”
Furthermore, the Anticipatory Action Framework, led by UNOCHA, promotes collaboration to enhance preparedness.
