Atiku criticizes Tinubu administration’s handling of security crisis

April 19, 2025 – Abuja, Nigeria- In a scathing press release issued on Saturday, April 19, 2025, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar condemned the Tinubu administration for its perceived failure to address Nigeria’s escalating security challenges.

Atiku’s statement, shared on his official X handle, highlights the rising discontent among political opposition leaders and security experts.

This dissatisfaction primarily concerns the current government’s inadequate response to the ongoing crisis in Nigeria.

Recently, Abubakar’s remarks followed violent incidents in the Logo and Gbagir communities of Ukum Local Government Area.

Throughout these events, innocent lives were tragically lost. He asserted, “The blood of innocent Nigerians continues to spill regularly,” emphasizing the urgent need for action.

Moreover, he criticized President Bola Tinubu, calling his leadership “disturbingly indifferent.” Abubakar argued that the president has failed to show basic public empathy during these national tragedies, which deepens the public’s concern.

Additionally, the former Vice President compared Tinubu’s response with that of global leaders who prioritized their nations during crises.

For instance, he cited President Barack Obama, who returned home after a police shooting in 2016, and South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, who cut short a state visit amid a 2019 electricity crisis.

Abubakar lamented, “If he cannot act, the least he can do is show up. If he cannot lead with empathy, he should at least attempt the performance of it.”

Abubakar’s statement underscores a sentiment shared by many Nigerians who feel abandoned by their leaders in times of need. “Nigeria is bleeding. Nigerians are dying. The president is nowhere to be found,” he asserted, calling for a more engaged and responsible leadership from Tinubu.

In conclusion, Atiku extended heartfelt condolences to the people and government of Benue State, expressing his solidarity with those affected.

He emphasized, “An inept administration cannot suddenly discover competence. Yet, we will continue to call it out.”

Atiku urged the president to prioritize the safety and dignity of all Nigerians, irrespective of their ethnicity, religion, or political affiliation.

Furthermore, as Nigeria’s situation continues to deteriorate, citizens nationwide are increasingly demanding accountability and effective governance.

This urgent concern underscores the need for leadership that addresses the nation’s challenges and protects its people.
