Fabrizio Romano believes Man Utd target Xavi Simons is set for transfer

Fabrizio Romano confirms Manchester United target Xavi Simons could be on his way out of RB Leipzig in the summer.
The 21-year-old is widely considered one of the most talented young players in Europe. The attacking midfielder started his career at Barcelona’s famous La Masia academy before exploding on the scene as a teenager at Paris Saint-Germain.
The Dutchman had a loan spell at PSV Eindhoven in 2022/23, before moving to Leipzig in the summer of 2023. He has been plying his trade in the Bundesliga ever since. The German club initially signed Simons on loan, but his move was made permanent in January for €50 million.
The midfielder has been electrifying this season, contributing with 10 goals and six assists in all competitions.
Despite playing for a rival club, Bayern Munich sporting director Christoph Freund described him as an ‘exceptional’ player.
Nevertheless, the youngster isn’t expected to dwell in Leipzig too long, not with a host of European giants hellbent on recruiting him. Moreover, the player’s contract is only valid until June 2027, so the Bundesliga side could be looking to cash in on him before losing their leverage on the negotiations.
Fabrizio Romano reveals latest on Xavi Simons

At the start of the month, Romano had revealed that Man United, Chelsea, Liverpool, and Arsenal are all keeping close tabs on Simons who could be available for £60 million.
The Italian journalist has now confirmed that the Netherlands international could depart next summer.
“Xavi Simons could leave Leipzig in the summer, as reported at the beginning of April… it’s still an open case. One to watch,” posted the transfer market insider on his X account.
With Ruben Amorim’s squad lacking creativity in the final third, Simons would certainly solve several issues for the Red Devils.
However, it won’t be easy for United to prevail in the race that includes a host of top clubs, especially if they fail to secure Champions League football. Moreover, the club is apparently keen to spend a large part of the war chest on a new striker.
At this point, it is almost impossible to overstate the importance of winning the Europa League, as the club’s entire transfer strategy might hinge on it.
