Gospel artiste Big Bolaji dies after brief illness

Nigerian gospel musician and ordained pastor, Bolaji Olarewaju—popularly known as Big Bolaji or Big B—is dead.
His family confirmed the news in a statement issued on Saturday, April 19, 2025, revealing that he died on Easter Saturday after a short illness.

While describing him as a beloved husband, father, brother, and a respected figure within both the church and the Nigerian gospel music scene, the family paid tribute to his legacy.
“Bolaji departed this life on Easter Saturday, April 19, 2025, following a brief illness. He was an ordained Pastor with the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), a towering figure in gospel music, and a beacon of hope and joy to many,” the statement read.
Funeral details will be announced at a later date, the family added.
Big Bolaji, who had recently celebrated his 50th birthday, remained deeply involved in both ministry and music up until his passing.
He initially began his musical journey with the gospel group J’apha and later rose to prominence for his dynamic performances, uplifting songs, and powerful voice.
He also gained recognition as a radio talk show host.
Since news of his passing broke, tributes have flooded in from fans, fellow gospel musicians, and church members, all remembering him as a joyful presence and a man of steadfast faith.
