Manchester United reportedly sent a scout to monitor Atalanta star duo Mateo Retegui and Ederson during Sunday’s contest against AC Milan.
The Red Devils are bracing themselves for what should be a big summer at Carrington, as INEOS looks to revamp the squad and provide Ruben Amorim with players capable of interpreting his playing system while raising the quality at the club.
In recent years, United have often turned to Serie A when fishing for new players, signing the likes of Rasmus Hojlund, Andre Onana, Joshua Zirkzee and most recently, Patrick Dorgu.
According to Italian journalist Nicolo Schira, the Premier League giants could be at it again.
“A Manchester United scout was yesterday at San Siro Stadium to watch the game between AC Milan and Atalanta to monitor the Brazilian midfielder Ederson and the striker Mateo Retegui. MUFC have already approached the agents in the last weeks to open talks,” posted the transfer market expert on his X account.

Atalanta prevailed over the Rossoneri thanks to Ederson’s solitary strike. The 25-year-old has emerged as one of the most complete central midfielders in Europe. Due to his energetic displays, fighting demeanour and dangerous drives, he has been dubbed the ‘New Casemiro’.
The Brazilian has been heavily linked with both Man Utd and Man City in recent months, but his price tag could be over £50 million.
As for Retegui, he has emerged as the ‘best striker in Italian football‘ this season, as he’s been enjoying a sensational first campaign in Bergamo. He currently leads the Serie A scoring charts with 23 goals in 31 outings.
The 25-year-old was born and raised in Argentina, rising to stardom in the 2022/23 campaign while on loan at Tigres from Boca Juniors. His exploits earned him a call-up to the Italian national team, so he decided to declare for the Azzurri in March 2023.
Man Utd are currently searching the market for a new striker, as Rasmus Hojlund has only scored three league goals this season, and ironically, his replacement may arrive from Atalanta as well.
