Utd could use Hojlund as makeweight in Osimhen deal

Should Manchester United fail to get a deal over the line for first-choice striker target Liam Delap, they’re likely to turn to Napoli wantaway Victor Osimhen.

The Ipswich Town talisman, 22, remains firmly cemented atop INEOS’ shortlist leading into the summer window, presumably because of his age and the fact he poses as a considerably cheaper alternative to Osimhen, who’s valued in the region of £70 million – over double the £30m release clause United would have to pay for Delap if Ipswich are relegated.

Not only that, Delap is now something of a Premier League-proven frontman. While only having one full season under his belt as a concrete starter, he has recorded a notable 12 goals thus far, with the remaining five matches providing him the opportunity to add to his tally before his anticipated Portman Road departure.

In the event United fail to win the Europa League and, therefore, do not qualify for next season’s Champions League campaign, it’s thought the Tractor Boys’ talisman may be deterred from an Old Trafford switch. He is keen to test his resolve among Europe’s elite at this stage of his career, and after garnering interest from almost every side in the division, he won’t be short of suitors come June.

According to Mail Sport, Osimhen may then become a plausible target for United to turn to. He is currently enjoying a stellar spell on loan with Galatasaray, where his efforts – 21 Super Lig goals in 25 appearances – are set to see him crowned a league champion before he returns to Napoli at the end of the term. From there, he will be sold by the Serie A giants due to last year’s fiery fallout with Antonio Conte, which is yet to be resolved.

Mail’s report states: “United could be persuaded to let Rasmus Hojlund return to Italy as part of the deal, with the former Atalanta centre-forward having scored just once in his last 28 games.”
