Abuja, April 29, 2025 — In a decisive move, Senator Abubakar Kyari, the Honorable Minister of Agriculture, urged climate-smart seeds.
This initiative aims to enhance food and nutrition security while fostering economic growth amid unpredictable climate conditions.
During a meeting with newly appointed Board Chairmen of Agricultural Research Institutes in Abuja, Senator Kyari emphasized innovation. He highlighted the critical role these institutions play in addressing Nigeria’s food security challenges through effective agricultural practices.
“Climate change is here to stay,” stated Senator Kyari. He insisted that we must adapt by breeding drought-resistant, heat-tolerant, high-yielding seeds. Thus, he called on research institutions to lead the way in delivering these solutions to Nigerian farmers.
Furthermore, the Minister tasked agencies with producing seeds that have shorter gestation periods and higher productivity. This approach aims to maximize the limited land resources available throughout the country.
