EFCC declares foreign national wanted over N1.3trn CBEX crypto fraud

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has declared a 41-year-old foreign national, Elie Bitar, wanted in connection with the cryptocurrency scam allegedly executed via the Crypto Bridge Exchange (CBEX) platform.
In a public notice issued on Wednesday, May 1, the anti-graft agency stated that Bitar is accused of playing a key role in a fraudulent investment scheme that defrauded thousands of Nigerians and led to the loss of over N1.3 trillion when CBEX collapsed in April.
“The public is hereby notified that Elie Bitar, whose photograph appears above, is wanted by the EFCC for fraud allegedly perpetrated on an online trading platform called Crypto Bridge Exchange (CBEX),” the notice reads.

The commission revealed that Bitar is linked to a network of suspicious transactions and associates, some of whom are already in custody.
His last known address is listed as Eng. George Enemoh Crescent, Lekki Phase 1, Lagos State.
The Commission is appealing to anyone with useful information about Bitar’s whereabouts to contact any of its zonal offices across the country.
The EFCC reaffirmed its commitment to bringing all parties involved in the CBEX fraud to justice.
