Separately, in Agadez, forces detained a suspected scout near the Inabangharet military post on May 1, accusing him of aiding armed groups with reconnaissance.
Tragic Loss of a Soldier
The operations came at a heavy cost. On May 1, an IED struck a patrol in Tillabéri’s Niaktiré area, killing one soldier. This incident highlights the constant dangers Nigerien forces face while combating militants near Mali, Burkina Faso, and Nigeria’s borders.
