Benue Gov raises alarm over plot to remove him from office

Governor Hyacinth Alia of Benue State has raised alarm over an alleged plot to remove him from office.
He accused some individuals of launching a coordinated effort to destabilise the state and discredit his administration.
Governor Alia made this known through his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Tersoo Kula, during a press briefing in Makurdi.
He alleged that certain disgruntled politicians were behind a campaign of misinformation and sponsored protests across the state.
“These protests are not genuine,” the governor said. “They are staged to manipulate public opinion and trigger unrest.”
He claimed the goal was to provoke enough tension to justify declaring a state of emergency in Benue.
Governor Alia described the alleged move as a desperate attempt to return the state to a failed political order.
He said the masterminds were uncomfortable with his administration’s ongoing reforms and anti-corruption stance.
According to him, some individuals were abusing legal channels to undermine legitimate government authority.
He cited cases of ex-convicts parading as lawyers and filing false petitions against his administration.
He also mentioned unregistered groups submitting petitions with misleading allegations and offensive language.
Alia further accused impersonators of holding press conferences while posing as legal professionals.
He called on the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) to investigate these cases and discipline those involved.
“These actions are not about justice,” he said. “They are personal vendettas driven by political desperation.”
Governor Alia assured Benue residents that his government remains focused and will not be distracted by opposition plots.
He said the state’s security remains intact and government operations are running smoothly without interruption.
He reaffirmed his commitment to protecting lives and property across Benue, especially from armed herdsmen.
“We are determined to secure Benue and improve governance,” he added. “No form of sabotage will stop our mission.”
Alia thanked the people of Benue for their continued support and urged them to ignore false narratives.
He maintained that the people are fully aware of the truth and remain firmly behind his leadership.
