2 brothers arrested for kidnapping, robbing man of N70m

Police authorities in Delta State have apprehended two brothers, Maxwell Mathew and Samuel Mathew, for allegedly kidnapping and robbing a man, Patrick Omoregie, in Abraka, in Ethiope-East Local Government Area of the State.

The suspects, said to be part of a two-man gang notorious for tormenting Abraka community, abducted their victim at gunpoint and forced him to transfer N70 million from his bank account.

They also allegedly stole his GLC 300 Benz, an iPhone 16 Plus, and N150,000 in cash.

Human rights advocate, Comrade Israel Joe confirmed the development on Wednesday, May 7, 2025, stating that the suspects were taken into custody at a hotel in Benin City, Edo State, where they were reportedly attempting to sell the stolen vehicle.

During interrogation, the brothers confessed using a portion of the stolen money to pay their mother’s rent in Abraka.

Authorities have since recovered approximately N30 million of the stolen funds. The case has been handed over to the Anti-Kidnapping Unit of the Delta State Police Command for continued investigation.

Joe urged the Commissioner of Police, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, to ensure a thorough investigation and swift prosecution of the suspects to serve as a warning to other would-be criminals.
