Nigeria, Brazil move to boost Aviation through new agreement

In a significant step to bridge Africa and South America, Nigeria ’s Aviation Minister, Festus Keyamo, met Brazil’s Minister of Ports and Airports, Silvio Costa Filho, in Brasília.
Their discussions focused on finalizing the long-pending Bilateral Air Service Agreement (BASA), which aims to enhance connectivity.
Both leaders agreed to resolve bureaucratic delays that have stalled progress for years.
During the talks, they stressed the importance of direct flights, citing strong historical and cultural bonds.
Keyamo declared, “This partnership will benefit both nations.
Nigeria is Africa’s largest country, and Brazil is a South American giant—this air link must start now.”
His statement highlighted the pressing need for action.
To accelerate the process, a technical team will finalize the agreement for signing within weeks.
This move is expected to unlock tourism, trade, and cultural exchanges.
Keyamo also noted the deep ties between Nigeria’s Yoruba community and Brazil, where many still speak Yoruba.
“We are like twins reunited,” he said, drawing applause.
The meeting ended with a fist bump, symbolizing their joint resolve.
Both ministers also explored broader collaboration in aviation, including training, infrastructure, and investments.
This agreement could mark a turning point in Nigeria-Brazil relations, fostering economic and cultural growth.
Ultimately, the BASA signifies a shared vision for stronger ties between Africa and South America.
By prioritizing aviation, both nations aim to drive progress and unity.
The deal’s success will depend on swift implementation and sustained cooperation.
