LP Suspends Former Chairman Abure, Secretary Umar for Six Months

The Labour Party National Caretaker Committee has suspended former National Chairman Julius Abure and former National Secretary Alhaji Farouk Umar for six months.
The decision, announced Thursday in Abuja, follows an investigation by a six-member Disciplinary Committee led by Senator Ireti Kingibe, which found evidence of “anti-party activities and gross misappropriation of party funds.”
In a statement signed by Caretaker Committee Chairperson Senator Nenadi Usman and Secretary Senator Darlington Nwokocha, the party’s National Executive Council (NEC) ratified the committee’s recommendations.
“The investigative report revealed significant financial misconduct,” the statement noted, adding that Umar was “identified as a co-signer in most of the fraudulent bank withdrawals and transfers alongside Abure.”
The committee also directed all members of Abure’s National Working Committee to cease representing the party.
This action comes a day after the Abure-led faction announced suspensions of Abia State Governor Alex Otti, Senator Kingibe and four others for alleged anti-party activities.
