Protests in Lagos as APC concludes chairmanship primaries, releases full list of candidates

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State has concluded its chairmanship primaries ahead of the June 12 Local Government Elections, announcing candidates for 55 out of the 57 Local Government Areas (LGAs) and Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) in the state.
However, the process was not without controversy, as some aspirants and their agents protested the results in various locations, citing alleged irregularities and manipulation.
Chairman of the APC Electoral Committee, Babatunde Ogala, acknowledged the tensions and admitted that “human errors may have occurred” during the primaries.
He urged aggrieved aspirants to channel their complaints through the party’s Appeal Committee, which he emphasized has the authority to reverse decisions where credible evidence is presented.
Despite the protests, APC produced candidates for nearly all LGAs and LCDAs. Some notable names include:
- Isa Jubril – Iba LCDA
- Motunrayo Gbadebo – Ijede LCDA
- Usman Hamzat – Ifako-Ijaiye LG
- Moyosore Ogunlewe – Kosofe LG
- Olamilekan Akindipe – Ajeromi-Ifelodun LG
- Taiwo Oyekan – Lagos Island LG
- Sura Animashaun – Epe LG

- Ibrahim Akinpelu – Alimosho LG

Ogala urged party members to remain united and focused ahead of the July 12 local elections.
His words: “Our party must present a united front. These elections are critical, and internal disputes must be handled maturely through the right channels.”
Two council areas have yet to finalize their candidates, reportedly due to disputes still under review.
