# The Executive Director, Social and Integral Development Centre (SIDEC), Ugochi Ehiahuruike, says the organization remains commitment to its mandate of ensuring an egalitarian society where the rights of everyone are protected regardless of gender differences.
Ehiahuruike stated this while addressing guests during her birthday celebration and official opening of its new office in Awka.
The Executive Director shared the mandate and activities of the organization with her guests. “SIDEC is a registered Non-Governmental Organization that is into strategic research and advocacy. We do these a lot. We have done a lot in the area of capacity building for leadership – how to manage difficult colleagues, and difficult managers.
# Chief Festus Udungwu, CEO of Manfes Pharmaceuticals Ltd, has revealed that his passion for football as a sport that fosters unity and joy is reason he’s bankrolling the 3rd edition of the annual FesrDrine/ANSFA All Stars Football Competition.
Udungwu spoke at the opening ceremony of the 2025 FestDrine/ANSFA All Stars Football Competition at the Awka City Stadium.
He disclosed that his company’s sponsorship of the competition will not be a ‘one off’ deal as he will continue to bankroll the tournament for a very long time.
# The Chairman, Nigerian Environmental Society (NES), Anambra State, Dr Emman Ude Akpeh, has described plastic waste as the “most critical challenges of our time”, which deserve urgent action.
In his monthly message for June, Dr Ude Akpeh urged Nigerians to join forces against it. “As we step into June, a month dedicated to global environmental action, I am reminded of the power of collective effort,” the message partly reads.
The NES Chair also identified the willingness and capacity to act as critical to addressing the scourge of plastic waste.
Akpeh called on the citizens to champion reuse and recycling. “Support local recycling efforts, waste segregation campaigns, and innovations that repurpose plastic waste.
# The Chairman, Anambra State Football Association (ANSFA) Chief Chikelue Iloenyosi assured that the football house is prepared to deliver a hitch free and successful competition that will eclipse the record of the previous editions.
Chief Iloenyosi who was represented by Mrs Cordelia Akanna, a member of the ANSFA Board, while speaking at the opening ceremony of the 2025 FestDrine/ANSFA All Stars Football Competition at the Awka City Stadium, stated that the Main Organising Committee of the competition will leave no stone unturned to ensure a successful competition.
# The digital momentum in Anambra State has once again gained national spotlight as the Managing Director/CEO of the Anambra State ICT Agency, Mr. Chukwuemeka Fred Agbata, was elected Financial Secretary of the Executive Board of Directors of the Nigeria Internet Registration Association (NiRA) at its just-concluded 17th Annual General Meeting (AGM).
NiRA, the custodian of Nigeria’s country code top-level domain (.ng), held its AGM in a hybrid format, with over 325 stakeholders participating both physically and virtually.
For Anambra, Mr. Agbata’s new role opens even more channels for collaboration and influence as the state continues to position itself as a digital-first government and a model for responsible tech-driven governance in Nigeria.
# The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, (NSCDC) Anambra State Command has successfully raided a highly organized illegal sand mining site at Omambala River Ifite-Ogwari, Ayamelum Local Government Area.
This was made known by Commandant Maku Olatunde, the NSCDC Anambra State Commandant in his office at the command Headquarters Awka.
Maku revealed that the operation conducted by the Mines and Steel Development Unit( MSD) of the command in collaboration with the newly deployed Anambra State Federal Mines Officer; Engr. Edet Anthony Oku, was based on credible intelligence suggesting potential illegal mining activities at the site.
The NSCDC boss said exhibits recovered from site included, one Dredger, two dredging engine pumps, eighteen drums, five suction pipes,eight plastic discharge pipes, three jerrycans (25L), one plastic bucket and one funnel.Following the raid, the illegal mining site has been sealed, and a manhunt has been launched for the fleeing suspects.
# The Chairman of Njikoka Local Government Area, Barr. Chinedu Ononiba, has strongly condemned the indiscriminate dumping of refuse across the council area.
The Mayor described the practice as a threat to public health, the environment, and the overall socio-economic well-being of the people.
During an on-the-spot assessment of strategic locations, the Mayor emphasized the need for immediate action. He announced plans to implement a structured and sustainable waste management system, including the installation of Refuse Collection Points (RCPs) in key areas of the local government.
These points are expected to improve refuse collection, discourage illegal dumping, and enhance overall sanitation.

The event which witnessed multitude of patients who with various health challenges also had more than thirty distributors of different categories in attendance.

# Nmesoma Obiora-Nwokedi a student of Queens Convent Awka in Anambra State, has set a new academic record in her school by scoring 349 in the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) resit.
This achievement is particularly remarkable given her earlier score of 165 in the initial exam, which was marred by technical glitches.
The Anglican Church-owned institution celebrated Nmesoma’s exceptional achievement, which was made possible by her determination and the support of her teachers and school community.
