Man United ‘ready to open talks’ for Viktor Gyokeres

Manchester United will reportedly act on their long-standing interest in Viktor Gyokeres imminently.
The Red Devils have been heavily linked with the Sporting Lisbon talisman ever since Ruben Amorim was first targeted for the managerial job.
When he officially took the reins last November, fans pleaded for him to use his Sporting ties and bring the forward with him to Old Trafford.

Now, there’s a chance such a situation materialises.
Journalist Nicolo Schira claims United are ‘ready to open talks’ for Gyokeres, whom Amorim has remained in contact with since his Sporting departure.
The Sweden international played 68 matches under Amorim in total, returning 66 goals and 19 assists. Across his 52 appearances in all competitions in 2024/2025, he notched an unfathomable 54 goals and 13 assists.
Of course, it remains to be seen if he’d be able to replicate such prolific form in a league as difficult as England’s top flight, but it’s certainly worth a punt for the price he’s available for.
Gyokeres future: The state of play
Despite having a release clause of around £83 million in his contract, Sporting would allow Gyokeres to depart this summer for a cut-price fee of £54m to grant him his wishes after his efforts proved integral to the side pipping arch-rivals Benfica to the league title.
Arsenal were seriously considering a swoop for the 27-year-old before they set their sights on a younger alternative in the form of Benjamin Sesko, allowing United an almost free run at Gyokeres.
Rasmus Hojlund, 22, faces an uncertain future following his substandard campaign in front of goal and amid growing interest from Serie A clubs, though United may opt to keep him around to play second-fiddle to Gyokeres if an agreement materialises.
