# The Deputy Speaker of Anambra State House Assembly, Rt Hon. Chukwuma Okoye has received the Obizi Women Squad, a grassroot mobilization group.

The event took place at the Deputy Speaker’s residence in Amawbia, Awka South Local Government Area.

Addressing the group, Rt Hon. Okoye who revealed that the event was not just a gathering but a movement for a robust and engaging interaction centred on shared goals geared towards mobilizing and delivering Governor Soludo in the November election.

The lawmaker reiterated that women remain the backbone of development in communities who are unwavering in their commitment to a better society and expressed confidence that the light of progress shining through Soludo’s administration will be sustained for a brighter state.

The woman leader of Obizi, Dr. Ngozi Ekwunife, thanked the Deputy Speaker Okoye for his doggedness and support to the good works of Governor Soludo and assured that they will not relent in propagating and projecting the present administration.

# Anambra State government is considering introducing the compulsory presentation of an up-to-date vaccination card for any child enrolled in schools in the state.

This was discussed during a crucial meeting of the State Social Mobilization Committee ahead of the upcoming Round Two National Immunization Plus Days (NIPDS 2) in Anambra State.

The meeting became necessary to develop a more results-oriented work plan to combat the growing challenge of very poor vaccine uptake in the state.

# The government of Anambra State has issued a directive to residents and occupants of old, faded, or dilapidated buildings to repaint and upgrade their structures especially those in public view areas (Ka Anambra Chakee)”.

In a public notice signed by the Commissioner for Environment, Engr. Felix Odimegwu, this move is aimed at improving the aesthetic appeal of the environment and promoting urban renewal across towns and cities.

The enforcement begins July 1, 2025, and officials will begin monitoring for compliance.

Property owners are advised to act now to avoid penalties’. the notice stated.

# After full-time ended 2 – 2, St. Mary’s College Awka lifted the trophy and went home with one million naira after defeating Tansi International College Awka 6 – 5 in penalty shootout in the C-Unit final football competition for Awka South Local Government Area held at St. Patrick’s Cathedral Awka.

Captain of St. Mary’s, James Asogwa, said though the game was a tough one, team work helped his team triumph; boasting that they will win again if match is replayed, while his Tansi counterpart, Chinedu Ezeani, blamed the loss on his team relaxing after scoring the ‘opening goal’.

# The Police Operatives led by the Area Commander Aguata, complemented by the Joint Security Force comprising the Army, Navy, Civil Defence and Vigilante Operatives have taken over the scene of an alleged cult related shooting at the Total Junction and Tipper junction all in Oko, Orumba North Local Government Area.

Two victims including a lady who is currently receiving treatment in a hospital were rescued. Sadly, the incident recorded the death of two persons and the alleged abduction of two others.

Anambra Police Command Spokesperson, SP. Tochukwu Ikenga in a press release stated that an eyewitness account revealed that the armed criminals operating with a motorcycle and a black Lexus 350 SUV without a plate number, started shooting indiscriminately at the Total junction.

“Four persons were allegedly wounded including a lady that is currently receiving treatment at the hospital. The two others were allegedly abducted at the Tipper junction before they fled the scene.

“The Command has sued for calm as the Operatives are already acting on some clues from the scene and leveraging on necessary information from some eyewitnesses for the possible arrest of the hoodlums’. Ikenga stated.

# The ongoing schools’ outreach program of Anambra State Civic and Social Reformation Office (ANCISRO) berthed at Gran Hermano Schools, Awka.

The campaign which ANCISRO executes in collaboration with a non-governmental organisation, the Foundation for Attitude Reformation (FAR) aims at reforming youths and inculcating noble values in them amid ongoing trend of vices such as a growing number of cases of cultism in schools; rise in cases of get-rich-quick syndrome; increased hard drug use and abuse among youngsters; increase in number of out-of-school children; teenage pregnancy among others was hosted by the secondary school section of the group of schools.

The ANCISRO team addressed pupils and teachers of the school on the theme, ‘The Deception in What You See and the Reality of What They Are’ during their Morning Assembly period. In his presentation, the Managing Director of ANCISRO, Chuka Nnabuife urged the students to guard against being carried away from their dreams and ultimate goals by such fads as the social media and the persuasion of peer groups.

Nnabuife regaled his audience with stories of young people who got derailed by temporary enticements such as seductive fads and trends that lured them away from the paths of success like studyingthe to pass their courses and working hard in life.

# The Director General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier General Nafiu, paid a landmark visit to the Nnamdi Azikiwe NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Umuawulu/Mbaukwu, Awka South LGA, Anambra State.

The DG was warmly received by the State Coordinator, Mrs. Pauline Ojisua, alongside dignitaries and camp officials.

She lauded the enthusiasm and orderly conduct of the 1,186 Corps Members—comprising 679 males and 507 females—underscoring the camp’s efficiency and expressing appreciation for the DG’s presence.

Brig. Gen. Nafiu delivered a rousing speech to the Corps Members, weaving humor into a serious charge. He highlighted the orientation programme as a foundation for fostering patriotism, discipline, and unity.

Emphasizing the values enshrined in the NYSC Anthem, he urged Corps Members to embody integrity, respect host community customs, and guard their digital footprints with responsibility.

# The Anambra State Bureau of Statistics has announced that the state now operates a digitized open data system, positioning it among the few states in Nigeria to adopt such an advanced data collection model.

This was disclosed by the Statistician General and Managing Director of the Bureau, Dr. Obiora Obiabunmo, during a financial verification meeting with the Public Accounts Committee of the Anambra State House of Assembly at the Assembly Complex in Awka. The meeting was convened to examine the Bureau’s audited financial report for the 2024 fiscal year.

Dr. Obiabunmo commended Governor Charles Soludo for launching the Anambra State Open Portal, which facilitated the shift from a manual system to a fully digitized data collection platform. He noted that the upgrade has significantly improved the quality of data collection and analysis, while also enhancing the state’s revenue generation efforts.

According to him, the Bureau of Statistics, in collaboration with the Ministry of Economic Planning, has commenced the first phase of the open portal data system.

# The leader of the Fulani community in Anambra state and National Deputy Director-General of Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) Alhaji Gidado Siddiki has expressed deep concern that the government of Professor Charles Chukwuma Soludo does not recognize the northern community in the state.

Siddiki who unleashed his lamentations and remonstrations during an interview at the cattle market Amansea Awka, stated in very strong terms that the government of the day does not invite the northern community to her events and does not really care if they were part of the citizenry.

He stated that the northern community was not invited when Governor Soludo did his first, second and even third anniversary in office coupled with his inauguration ceremony upon assumption of duty as governor of the state.
