POLIO: Anambra set for immunization of CVPV, Type 2 vaccine

The Anambra State Primary Health Care Development Agency in collaboration with State Ministry of Health and Partners has announced the second round of National immunizations plus Days (NIPDS) against circulating Variant Polio Virus Type 2 (CVPV2) infection.
The immunization which is expected to commence on Saturday 28th June, to Tuesday 1st July, 2025 is aimed at ensuring that no child is left behind in our collective effort to end polio and strengthen routine immunization coverage and protect the health and future of the children, News Echo reports.
Speaking on Thursday, 19th June, 2025, at the ASPHCDA Board Room, the Executive Secretary Anambra State Primary Healthcare Development Agency, Pharm (Mrs) Chisom F. Uchem said the immunization is the Nigeria’s last opportunity to end Polio transmission, adding that good execution must be prioritized.
The ASPHCDA Boss noted that the eligible persons for such immunization is from 0-59 months through the Oral Polio Vaccine (OPV) irrespective of previous immunization status. She called on all wards/parents to report any children under the age of 15years that develops weakness of one or two legs or arms immediately to the nearest health facility or immunization team.
Pharm Uchem pointed out that the agency will to partner with the ministry of education, the church and any other relevant organisations that will aid the delivery services. “The immunisations is very important and there is need to ensure that all children benefit from this. We will partner with the schools through the ministry of education, the media, the religious, market leaders and community leaders to ensure full participation.
Meanwhile, Those present at the event were Director Disease control and immunization-Chief Dr Uliaagbafusi placid, Anambra World Health Coordinator-Dr Bonus mohammed, representatives from the Red Cross, Anambra Ministry of Education, UNICEF, Civil Society Organisation, the Natiinal Primary Health Agency and the media.
