# The National Association of Igbo, African and Communication Studies Students, NAIACSS, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka has held its 2024/2025 Induction and Send-forth ceremony for students of the Department, at the Faculty of Arts Auditorium.

In his remark, the Dean, Prof. George Onwudiwe, explained that the day was for students of the Department to showcase themselves and what they are studying, using the avenue to charge parents no to shy away from proudly sending their children to study Igbo language, given the inherent knowledge and benefits in it.

The Head of Department, Professor Nkoli Nyigide, explained that the event was to formally welcome 100 level students while also sending forth, the 400 level students, teaching them what is expected of them in their new phase of life while also urging all to speak the Igbo language proudly.

The President of the association, Mr. Eric Nwokeoma and a lecturer in the Department, Prof. Ifeoma Udechukwu, explained that aside formally welcoming the new students, the event was to impact knowledge

# The Speaker of Anambra State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Somtochukwu Udeze has said that the Law enacted by the State Legislature to prohibit widowhood malpractices and other related matters is still in force in the State.

The Speaker calls on traditional rulers to abrogate all obnoxious and harmful laws as well as discrimination and practices against widows in their various communities.

In his Goodwill Message, Rt. Hon. Udeze maintained that widows should be allowed to enjoy their human rights as equal and valuable members of the society and urged government at different levels to intensify campaign and measures to ensure adequate protection and empowerment of widows.

The Speaker who called on South-Eastern Houses Of Assembly to come up with a regional legislation to restore the rights of widows, commended Governor Chukwuma Soludo and wife, Nonye for ensuring that issues concerning women especially widows in the State are given priority attention in order to better their lives.

# Anambra State Signage and Advertisement Agency (ANSAA) has addressed growing controversy surrounding the fifty million naira fee imposed on political parties for campaign posters and banners ahead of the 2025 gubernatorial election.

The Managing Director of ANSAA, Odili Tony Ujubuonu, Speaking with journalists in Awka, defended the agency decision, describing the payment as essential for coordinating an organized and legally compliant visual campaign across 175 communities in Anambra.

According to Ujubuonu, the ₦50 million fee covers five months of sustained visibility through posters and banners in towns and villages, which he said would otherwise cost more if billed individually.

The ANSAA boss added that official letters notifying candidates of the payment were sent to all major aspirants, including the incumbent Governor, Prof. Charles Chukwuma Soludo. However, he noted that women and youth aspirants were still under review and were not issued the circular.

# The people of the Anambra North Senatorial Zone gathered at the Otuocha Township Stadium, Aguleri for a rally in support of Governor Chukwuma Soludo.

The event, organized under the auspices of Anambra North Stakeholders Forum; a coalition of current and former elected officials, appointees and key stakeholders from Anambra North, is aptly themed “Sustaining The Solution Legacy; A Path To Disruptive Development In Anambra State”.

On arrival, Governor Soludo was by greeted by over 5,000 ecstatic supporters. He expressed deep gratitude for the overwhelming support from the people of Anambra North.

# Transtell Company located at No: 20 GMO road Atani industrial layout near Onitsha is under siege as over 30 personnel of the Nigerian Army from 302 General Support Artillery Regiment/Onitsha Military Cantonment invaded the company’s premises threatening to kill any staff of the company who attempted to make videos, take pictures or make phone calls to alert the public about what they saw as illegal operation.

Investigations has it that the soldiers shut down operations in the company with a promise to return the next day for further actions. Sources from the company revealed that the military personnel returned the next day with many heavy duty trucks and ordered all staff of the company out of the premises leaving only the security men who watched helplessly while the fully armed soldiers siphoned the company’s petroleum products and other company finished products into many heavy duty trucks and absconded to an unknown destination.

It was revealed that Transtell Company and Envoy Group chaired by Chief Felix Ojimba, is a company reputed for the production of edible oil,with Palm Kernel oil ,Palm oil and Soya bean oil as raw materials for production of different types of edible oil.

The company is said to procure her petroleum products (AGO and LPFO) directly from the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) and NNPC Certified Vendors with transaction receipts and other documentations as evidence of legality and due process in business.

# The fifty million naira fee imposed by the Anambra State Signage and Advertisement Agency (ANSAA), on political parties for campaign posters and banners ahead of the 2025 gubernatorial election has drawn criticism from some candidates who say they were not informed and have been unfairly treated.

During a peaceful demonstration in Awka, African Action Congress (AAC) governorship candidate, Chioma Ifemeludike, expressed dissatisfaction over what she described as ANSAA’s “blatant disregard” for her candidacy and an act of gender discrimination.

“No circular or exemption notice was sent to me. The letter was reportedly released on June 11, but I only found out today. This lack of communication reflects a dangerous mindset that a woman cannot lead Anambra State.”

Ifemeludike further called on the state government and ANSAA to treat all registered political parties equally, regardless of gender, status or political affiliation. She emphasized that all parties recognized by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) deserve the same level of respect and consideration.

# The Social and Integral Development Centre, (SIDEC) has taken its sensitization programme to Agbo-Edo Spareparts market, Nnewi urging women traders to rise above obstacles and aspire for leadership positions.

Executive Director, SIDEC, Mrs Ugochi Ehiahuruike, maintained that women have the natural potential to lead as they have proven in several other spheres of life except for political offices.

Addressing the women, Ehiahuruike said, the sensitization is to demystify the political offices.

# Tilova For Africa, an American based Charity Foundation has called on Federal and State Governments to decriminalise giving and receiving of tips in Nigeria.

Mr Martin Nwabueze, Co-founder of Tilova 4 Africa made the call at a news conference in Awka on Sunday.

Nwabueze described tip money’ as a financial reward voluntarily given to an attendant in appreciation for a satisfactory service enjoyed after making the statutory payment for goods or service provided.

He said ‘tip money’ was a normal practice in western world especially in the United States and wondered why a customer would not support an attendant with it in Nigeria without the employee being punished.

# The management of Federal Polytechnic Oko, Anambra State has debunked a viral video in the social media which claimed that some people were shot yesterday at the institution saying that the incident occurred within Oko community and not in Federal Polytechnic Oko.

In a press release signed by the Public Relations Officer, Federal Polytechnic Oko, Mr. Chijioke Ibeziako and made available to newsmen the public has been urged to remain calm and refrain from making inflammatory statements that can cause panic or jeopardize police investigations into the matter.

According to the press statement on the shooting incident in Oko, attention of the Management of Federal Polytechnic Oko has been drawn to the disturbing trending video in the social media space in which some people were shot on the night of 19th June in Oko. There has been inaccurate insinuations that this shooting incidence happened in Federal Polytechnic Oko.
