Anambra Lawmaker Visits Drug Rehabilitation Center, Calls For Gov’t Intervention

The lawmaker representing Anaocha one Constituency at the Anambra State House of Assembly, Hon. Nkechi Ogbuefi has paid a visit to Drug Rehabilitation Center in Agulu.
Angel Network News (ANN) reports that
the facility is currently housed with over five hundred persons of whom many are victims of drug addiction and trauma.
Hon. Ogbuefi while speaking said the visit is part of activities marking the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, observed globally on June 26.
The lawmaker maintained that her visit was both a show of solidarity and a clarion call to action, stressing that the fight against drug abuse must include not just rehabilitation but also prevention and reintegration into the society.
She lamented over the growing number of drug-dependent individuals which has brought to the fore the urgent need for strong government presence, support, and intervention in addressing substance abuse and mental health challenges in the state.
Ogbuefi appealed to Anambra State Government, philanthropists, and corporate organizations to channel more resources towards drug prevention programs and awareness campaigns, affirming that the current state of the facility in Agulu deserves special attention as it carries a heavy burden in restoring the lives of those affected by substance abuse.
In a vote of thanks, the Manager of the facility, Mr. Chukwukaodinaka Akataka, commended the lawmaker for the visit and called for government intervention, revealing that the center operates with limited funds while urging youths to free from drugs.
The victims who unanimously prayed and thanked Ogbuefi, promised not to deter their lives by any drug substance.
