2027: I’ll Serve Just One Term If I Get ADC Presidential Ticket – Amaechi

Former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, has pledged to serve only one term in office if he emerges as the presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) for the 2027 general election.
Amaechi made this commitment during an interview on Politics Today aired on Channels Television on Thursday.
He explained that his decision was anchored on maintaining Nigeria’s delicate power balance between the North and South.
“For now, the way Nigeria is, you must stick to that unwritten agreement that says south eight years, north eight years,” Amaechi said, referencing the gentleman’s agreement many believe ensures equitable presidential power rotation between the two regions.
The former Rivers State governor recalled his role in the 2015 power shift, saying, “I led the fight against the PDP government because there was an agreement that the government at that time would spend four years and after four years, the government reneged.
“I said, ‘No, that would be unfair, that would be instability at its peak because the North will react.’”
Asked by the show’s host, Seun Okinbaloye, whether he would willingly serve a single term if given the opportunity, Amaechi replied: “Of course.”
He added, “Nigerians know that I speak my mind. Nigerians know that what I cannot do I will not say.”
Amaechi also criticised President Bola Tinubu’s administration, stating that it deserves to be voted out in 2027 due to the economic hardship and suffering many Nigerians are facing.
His statement comes amid his recent alignment with a coalition of opposition figures who have adopted the ADC as their political platform ahead of the 2027 elections.
