# The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Anambra State Council, has registered its displeasure at the attitude of some contractors doing shabby jobs in the State, despite the scarce availability of resources, warning that such conduct sabotages efforts to build a better society.

In a communique issued after its july congress presided by the Chairman,
Comrade Odogwu Emeka Odogwu, held at the Godwin Ezeemo International Press Centre (NUJ Secretariat Complex), Awka,
calls for a stop to such unpatriotic acts, emphasizing the need for government supervisors and evaluation teams to desist from conniving with greedy contractors to execute poor quality jobs on public infrastructure and utilities.

# The Executive Chairman of the Anambra Internal Revenue Service (AiRS), Dr. Greg Ezeilo, has sounded a clear warning to the public and staff of the Service over tax fraud.

Ezeilo re-emphasized, warning ndi Anambra not pay cash to any AiRS employee under any circumstance.

This directive comes in response to growing concerns and verified reports that some overzealous field officers and revenue enforcers have been intimidating business owners and individuals, demanding cash payments for taxes, levies, or business premises registration.

According to Dr. Ezeilo, the AiRS operates a strict zero-cash policy, and all tax transactions must be done digitally through approved government channels to ensure transparency, traceability, and accountability.

The chairman called on the people of Anambra to partner with the government in sanitizing the revenue process by refusing to engage in off-record cash payments, no matter the pressure or threat from staff.

# Residents, traders, and transporters in Onitsh have commended Governor Chukwuma Soludo for establishing the Special Anti-Touting Squad Agency (SASA), which many say has brought back peace and sanity to once-troubled areas like Upper Iweka, Ochanja.

Speaking with Journalist in Onitsha, Mr. Samuel Iwunna, a veteran trader in Onitsha Main Market, described SASA as “nothing short of a miracle.”

“SASA is a big blessing to Anambra, especially to us in Onitsha. I now come into Upper Iweka to buy and sell without fear of being attacked. No more snatching of bags or extortion by touts. All thanks to Governor Soludo for his great work and for appointing a capable man to head the agency. Only a strong leader can manage an operation like this.”

“The agency’s presence on the streets has not only reduced crime but also restored confidence among traders and commuters alike.

“Anyone who speaks ill of SASA or wants it removed is an enemy of ndi Anambra. It is only someone who hates peace that would wish this agency harm. Since SASA was created, Anambra has become calm and orderly”. Iwunna declared.

# The Catholic Bishop of Awka Diocese, Most Rev. Paulinus Ezeokafor has commissioned the newly renovated General Out-Patients Department (GOPD) and Maternity Wards at Regina Caeli Specialist Hospital, Awka.

The event which held at the hospital premises marks its efforts to enhance healthcare delivery for residents of Awka and surrounding communities.

In his remarks, Bishop Ezeokafor commended the hospital’s leadership and staff for their commitment and encouraged continuous investment in health infrastructure.

Speaking during the ceremony, the hospital’s MD/CEO, Rev. Fr. Innocent Affusim, expressed gratitude to Bishop Ezeokafor for his unwavering support and commitment to quality healthcare.

# The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Anambra Council has appealed to the State Government to immediately intervene in the persistent flooding at Ngozika Estate as millions of naira worth of property is currently submerged in water.

frowned at the improper channeling of flood water in some roads which exposes residents to more harm, calling for measures to redeem the anomaly.

# The State Commandant of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Anambra State Command, Commandant Maku Olatunde participated at the House of Representatives Committee on the Constitution Review of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as Amended) South East, Zone A (Anambra, Enugu, Ebonyi States) public hearing held at Multi- Purpose Hall International Conference Center Enugu, Enugu State.

Commandant Maku, unavoidably absent due to exigencies of office was represented by the second in command; Deputy Commandant Prominence Ukaobi at the public hearing to throw his weight behind the call for NSCDC to be granted full constitutional recognition in the Constitution.

Presenting NSCDC position paper on behalf of Prof. Ahmed Abubakar Audi, the Commandant General of NSCDC, Dr. Elijah Etim Willie, the NSCDC Enugu State Commandant called on the National Assembly to give the Corps clear constitutional status which would enhance the agency’s ability to protect lives, property, and critical national assets.

He emphasized the need for a specific constitutional provision to define the NSCDC’s role, which would put an end to debates about merging the Corps with another agency. Audi highlighted the Corps’s evolution from a voluntary organization during the Nigerian Civil War to a full-fledged federal security agency in 2003.

# A renowned politician and former local Government chairman Nnewi North, Hon Azuka Okwuosa has clinched the ticket of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the August 16 senatorial by-election for Anambra South Senatorial zone.

Okwuosa, former Anambra governorship aspirant, in a keenly contested election, which was conducted by a seven-member committee from the national secretariat of the APC and chaired by Chief Henry Ikoh, polled a total of 470 votes to defeat Mr Obinna Uzor who got 57 voted.

Announcing the results, the chairman of the primary election committee, Chief Ikoh revealed that a total of 590 delegates from all the seven local government areas of the zone participated in the primary election, with 22 invalid votes.

# The governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Anambra State, Chief Jude Ezenwafor, is believed to have been shot at by unknown assassins on Friday night in Abuja, the nation’s capital.

He was however lucky as he narrowly escaped death even with bullets left in parts of his body.

The unfortunate incident was said to have happened around the ever-busy Wuse II district of Abuja while heading home after a night meeting.

Ezenwafor, who is presently in an undisclosed private health facility in Abuja, where he is receiving medical attention, was believed to had been attacked alongside two other persons who were with him at the time of the incident.

# The Anambra State Internal Revenue Service (AIRS) has refuted a recent claim by former Governor Peter Obi that SABMiller Breweries is the highest tax-paying company in the state.

Obi made the assertion during an interview with Channels Television, citing SABMiller — established during his administration — as a major contributor to the state’s Internally Generated Revenue (IGR).

However, in a statement titled “Peter Obi on SABMiller Breweries — Facts and Figures,” signed by the AIRS Chairman, Greg Ezeilo, the agency stated that the brewery is not among the top five tax contributors in Anambra.
