# The Head, Department of Early Childhood and Primary Education, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Prof. Ifeoma Obumneke-Okeke, has appealed to the University Management for the allocation of the Chinua Achebe Building to the Department, as well as the conversion of Crèche minders to full-time University staff.

Prof. Obumneke-Okeke made the passionate appeal during the 4th Graduation Ceremony of the University Crèche at the Chinua Achebe Building, UNIZIK.

She explained that the Crèche, which began in 2018 and was officially commissioned by the then Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Prof. Charles Esimone, FAS, has continued to grow steadily with full support from the University Management.

According to her, the staff strength has risen from two to thirteen, offering reliable services to the University community and beyond. She noted that the Crèche has provided a vital service, giving parents peace of mind to go about their daily duties knowing their children are safe and close by.

# The newly created Anambra State Civic and Social Reformation Office (ANCISRO) began a series of visits and engagements with various secondary schools in Awka, the capital of Anambra State.

ANCISRO MD, Sir. Chuka Nnabuife maintained that the objective of the outreach was to enlighten students on the need to nurture a generation of truly great men and women.

During the sessions, the students, both girls and boys were reminded that success in life is not solely about acquiring certificates, making money, or attaining lofty positions. Rather, it is defined by one’s commitment to leaving society better than one met it, and by embodying sound values and strong character.

# Zeus Sports and Entertainment Consultant Limited in partnership with Anambra State Government is finalizing its plans to host WBF World Title Boxing Fight.

The event which is scheduled to hold on October 26 and 27 2025, at the Solution Fun City Awka, will feature Taiwo Agbaja of Nigeria vs Thomas Mason from France.

Speaking in Awka on Thursday in a press conference with Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) Anambra State Chapter, Mr. Emmanuel Emenogu a boxing promoter revealed that the world title fight tagged ‘Solution Bout’ will also feature the return of Ike Ibeabuchi (Nigeria) vs Josh Pretorius (South Africa), King Davidson vs Sumit, James Bryan Wild vs Ridwan Oyekola, Cynthia Ogunsemitore vs Hagar Elsayec,
as well as other boxers from international scene.

# The Department of Political Science, Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka has held its maiden international conference as
analysts charge African leaders and citizens to take responsibility for the poor development trajectory of the continent.

Dr. Ogban Ogban-Iyam, the lead paper presenter of the event themed, “Africa at crossroads: Confronting Governance, Security and Development Challenges in the 21st Century”, decried Africa’s over-dependence on colonial masters decades after they have gone away.

The scholar argued that with the right leadership, countries of the continent would have progressed beyond their present pitiable state.

 

# A pregnant nurse has been reportedly murdered by a man identified as Chiemelie Oborji, also known as Obitex, in what many believe to be a ritual k!lling.

The incident happened in Umueri Village, Ogbunike, in Oyi Local Government Area of Anambra State, where the suspect was also said to have attempted to cover up his evil act by dumping the body of the pregnant nurse inside a pit in a bush behind his compound.

This is corroborated by some video clips currently trending on social media, showing some visibly distressed community youths dragging out the victim’s body from the bush after it had been recovered. A voice was heard in the background condemning the act and declaring the suspect wanted by the entire community.

According to reports, the suspect, Obitex, invited the pregnant nurse to treat and provide urgent medical help to his ailing mother who he claimed became very sick at midnight (around 1.am). However, as soon as she arrived, she was brütally attacked and gruesomely mürdered by the suspect. Her body was later found dumped inside a pit near the suspect’s compound.

# The Anambra State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Awka, acting on intelligence-driven operation, dismantled an inter-state child stealing and trafficking ring.

The Operatives arrested Mr. Uche Okoye, 43, and rescued eleven children (five boys and six girls), ages 3-6, in Uruagu, Nnewi, Anambra State.

Anambra Police Spokesperson SP. Tochukwu Ikenga, stated that the suspect is believed to be a key figure in the abduction and trafficking of children across state lines.

Preliminary investigation reveals that the children were stolen from Adamawa and sold for adoption at N1,500,000 for boys and N800,000 for girls to unsuspecting members of the public.

# Director General, National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Brigadier-General Olakunle Nafiu, has expressed worry over lack of commitment of corps’ employers to their avowed responsibilities.

The DG made the observation in Awka, Anambra state at 2025 NYSC/Corps Employers’ Workshop themed “Strengthening NYSC/Corps Employers Partnership for Improved Mutual Benefits”

Nafiu, in his keynote address delivered by Mrs. Mary Chikezie of the South East Area Office 1, regretted the consequences of such negligence.

He charged establishments and organizations that require corps members’ services to rise to their obligations.

Declaring the workshop open, Anambra State Governor, Prof Chukwuma Soludo,  applauded NYSC for “a timely and transformative event.”

Soludo, represented by Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Youth Development, Engr. Dr. Martin Agbili urged employers to seize the platform to bridge the lingering communication gaps with the Scheme.

# The Association of Non-Indigenes in Anambra State (ANIAS) has commended Governor Chukwuma Soludo for appointing a non-indigene, Mr. Joachin Chinedum Achor from Abia State, as the Acting Accountant General of Anambra State.

Soludo approved the appointment following the exit of Dr. Chukwudi Okoli, who held the position for nearly three years.

The announcement of the appointment was made public in a statement released on Thursday by the Governor’s Press Secretary, Mr. Christian Aburime.

 

# The Nigerian Women Trust Fund, (NWTF) has organized a three-day Training of Trainers (ToT) for selected women from different local government areas of Anambra state, ahead of the November 8th 2025 gubernatorial election.

The training organized by NWTF as part of continuous voter education project is funded by the European Union under the cohort of 16 organizations.

It is being implemented under the component 5A, known as the European Union Support to Democratic Governance in Nigeria.

The Program Lead at the NWTF, Vaneza Gregory while speaking, explained that the project is specifically targeted at reducing political illiteracy among women who make up almost half of the voting population in the country.
