Bariga Bids Charly Boy Farewell, Welcomes Olamide: Iconic Bus Stop Renamed in Honour of Music Star

In a symbolic gesture blending cultural legacy with contemporary influence, the Bariga Local Council Development Area (LCDA) has officially renamed the popular Charly Boy bus stop to Olamide bus stop, in honour of the Nigerian music icon and Bariga-born superstar, Olamide Adedeji.
The announcement was made by Bariga LCDA Chairman, Hon. Alabi Kolade David, who noted that the decision to rename the landmark location was aimed at “honouring a true son of the soil whose rise from Bariga streets to global stardom continues to inspire millions.”
“Charly Boy has played his part in the history of Nigerian entertainment and activism. But it’s time to pass the baton to a new icon who represents the dreams and grit of today’s youth,” Hon. Alabi stated during the unveiling.
Olamide, also known as Baddo, rose to fame as one of Nigeria’s most influential indigenous rappers, giving voice to the streets of Bariga through his music, philanthropy, and unrelenting hustle. His impact, especially in empowering young artists and building music platforms like YBNL, has etched his name deeply into the heart of the Nigerian creative economy.
The renaming signals a cultural shift and recognition of newer heroes who are not only shaping the entertainment landscape but also putting communities like Bariga on the global map.
While the Charly Boy bus stop has long served as a symbolic intersection of rebellion and artistic expression, its new identity as Olamide bus stop is seen as a celebration of modern resilience, street credibility, and the enduring power of roots.
For commuters, locals, and fans alike, the transformation is more than a name change—it’s a proud nod to evolution, relevance, and homegrown excellence.
