Manchester United are reportedly keeping an eye on Ousmane Diomandé who played under the tutelage of Ruben Amorim at Sporting CP.

Since making the mid-season switch from the Portuguese capital to Carrington, the new Red Devils boss has been linked with a reunion of several of his former disciples. The list includes Viktor Gyokeres who is one of the most sought-after bombers in Europe, and Nuno Mendes who currently plies his trade at Paris Saint Germain.

But according to Fichajes.net, the 39-year-old tactician has also requested the signing of Diomandé, a 21-year-old Ivorian defender who has been making waves in Lisbon. The Portuguese giants paid €7.5 million to secure the youngster’s services from FC Midtjylland in January 2023, but they are reportedly asking for €60 million to part ways with the centre-back in what would guarantee them an astronomical capital gain.

The Abidjan native has been a regular starter at Sporting this season, making 26 appearances across all competitions. He is tied to a contract with the club running until June 2027.

As the source explains, Man Utd are in dire need of fresh blood at the back, so Diomandé could be the right profile for the role. The Premier League giants are expected to part ways with at least a couple of defenders at the end of the season, with Johny Evans and Victor Lindelof running on expiring contracts.

Moreover, the Ivory Coast international is already familiar with Amorim’s tactical system having served under his guidance for almost two years while making great strides.

While a January move remains unlikely as Man Utd would struggle to fork out this considerable sum, this could be a track to keep an eye on in the summer.

In the meantime, United are trying to address some of their more urgent needs, including signing a new left wingback, with all eyes now set on Lecce’s Patrick Dorgu.
