BREAKING: SDP Expels El-Rufai, Imposes 30-Year Ban Over Fake Membership Claims

In a bold and decisive move today, the Social Democratic Party (SDP) announced the expulsion of former Kaduna State Governor Mallam Nasir Ahmad El‑Rufai, accompanied by a sweeping 30-year ban from all party activities and affiliation.
The directive emerged from a thorough investigation conducted by the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) and was formally communicated via a statement signed by National Publicity Secretary Araba Rufus Aiyenigba .
Why He Was Expelled
SDP accuses El‑Rufai of falsely presenting himself as a registered party member, despite never completing ward-level registration as required by the SDP constitution and the Electoral Act
He allegedly forged membership documents, claiming the improbable position of “#001” member in Unguwar Sarki Ward, Kaduna North, as if the ward had no prior members .
The committee cited manipulation of internal processes, use of misleading photo‑ops with suspended SDP figures, and a deliberate attempt to draw the party into coalition politics, especially via the African Democratic Congress (ADC), contrary to SDP ideology and constitutional norms.
