No white smoke in second Garnacho meeting between Man Utd & Napoli
Manchester United and Napoli held a second meeting to discuss the potential transfer of young winger Alejandro Garnacho.
The Partenopei parted ways with their main star Khvicha Kvaratskelia, selling him to Paris Saint-Germain for €75 million plus bonuses. Therefore, the Italian giants are keen to sign a new left winger, and Antonio Conte has identified Garnacho as the ideal candidate for the role.
The Argentine has recently lost his starting berth at Man Utd, especially following the departure of Erik ten Hag and the appointment of Ruben Amorim as new head coach. The Portuguese manager has been opting for club captain Bruno Fernandes and Amad Diallo in two roles behind the striker in his 3-4-2-1 formation.
Moreover, INEOS have been unable to find an agreement with the youngster over a long-term contract, so he remains one of the lowest earners in the squad with a salary of £50,000 per week. Hence, several signs suggest that Garnacho’s future may lie away from Carrington.
Man Utd & Napoli fail to agree on Alejandro Garnacho
On Tuesday, Man Utd directors held a first meeting with their Napoli counterparts to discuss a potential deal. While they couldn’t quite close the deal, they had at least managed to close the gap. The Red Devils agreed to lower their asking price from €75 million to €65m, while the Portenopei are offering figures worth €50-55 million.
So according to Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, the two parties resumed their talks in a second meeting on Wednesday with the hopes of finding a definitive breakthrough. However, the Sky Sport Italia correspondent claims that the white smoke has yet to emerge, as the gap between them persisted.
The Man Utd officials will leave Italy in the next hours, but Di Marzio expects the two parties to catch up in the next few days in the hopes of finding a solution.
