# The Chairman of Innoson Group, Dr. Innocent Chuwuma has cast his mind back to the early days of his Nnewi-based auto plant, recalling that former governor of Anambra state, Mr. Peter Obi, gave the company tremendous encouragement that helped boost its activities.
The industrialist said that apart from making the access road to Innoson plant very motorable, Obi placed repeated orders for hundreds of mini buses, pick-up trucks and SUVs.
Chuwuma disclosed, however, that the former governor is a hard bargainer who would always insist on the lowest possible unit price, even though he would pay promptly for every order placed.
Obi himself had some years ago disclosed on television that some people in his government had tried to dissuade him from purchasing the Innoson vehicles, alleging that they were death-traps.
# The Speaker of Anambra State House of Assembly Rt. Hon. Somtochukwu Udeze has called on Legislative Institutions in the country to enact laws that will enhance total development and empowerment of youth of the country.
In his Goodwill Message to Anambra youth as they join their counterparts in celebrating their day, Rt. Hon. Udeze acknowledged the role of youths in nation building, describing them as the productive hub of every nation and the hope of the society.
The Speaker who charged youths to abstain from negative influences such as lust, idolatry, greed and violence among others, maintained that with hard work, education, occupational and vocational engagements as well as skills acquisition, they will be useful to themselves and to the society.
He commended Governor Chukwuma Soludo for his unprecedented and unwavering efforts to transform Anambra State into a technology driven and youth empowered economy through his one youth, two skills youth empowerment programme in the State, which he said, has benefitted more than 20 thousand Youth of the State.
# The people of Umuogem and Umueji villages in Ufuma, Orumba North LGA of Anambra State, have cried out to the state government and security agencies for urgent help, alleging that their communities are under siege by armed criminal gangs.
In a press statement signed by Mr. Chukwuemeka Okeke for the Concerned Ufuma Professionals (CUP), the residents said the gangs have taken control of their forests and roads with “a surprising boldness that can baffle any sane society,” dictating daily life and operating without fear of law enforcement.
According to the statement, the criminals decide who may go to farms, impose levies before any celebrations can be held, seize mobile phones and remove SIM cards, and order when shops may open or close.
# The Action Alliance (AA) governorship candidate for Anambra State November 8 poll, Ozo Jeff Nweke has said that he sought the face of God before venturing into the contest and He confirmed to him how to serve.
Nweke stated this in an interview shortly after Thanksgiving service and interaction with the members of Hear the Word of God by Fire International, Nkwelle branch, Awka, Anambra State capital, noting that as a child of God, he had never stopped consulting Him before taken any decision.
The governorship candidate, who said the interaction was aimed at reminding the Christians of the need to always perform their civic responsibility wisely, explained that voting rightly would help to elect leaders of impact.
# Engr. Prof. Louis Chukwuemeka Orakwe of the Department of Agricultural and Bioresources Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, delivered the 112th Inaugural Lecture of the University on the topic: “Climate and Technological Dynamics in Soil-Water-Plant Relationships for Food Security and Environmental Sustainability.”
The Inaugural Lecturer and Professor of Soil Conservation, Water Resources and Environmental Engineering stated that the topic is of paramount importance owing to the global challenges of climate change and food security which is crucial in ensuring that there is sufficient sustenance, preservation of the environment and
comprehending the scientific aspects of the interplays between soil, water and plants.
Prof. Orakwe in highlighting the interrelationship among water, plant and soil informed that soil serves as the medium for plant growth which necessitates water and nutrients for development while plants enhance soil health and water purity through processes such as transpiration and photosynthesis.
# Wife of the Governor of Anambra State, Dr Nonye Soludo has announced plans to commence training for ladies in the state in skilled professions, especially those mostly dominated by men.
Mrs. Soludo said the training is targeted at closing gender gaps in certain areas where there are few or no women offering such services.
In a social media post to announce this, Soludo listed some of the professions in such the ladies will be trained to include: solar/CCTV installation, electrical repairs, carpentry, vehicle and keke mechanic, painting, among others.
# The All Progressives Congress (APC) members in Ogbaru LGA of Anambra State have said they are bent in delivering the party whole and intact to their flag-bearer, Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu, in November 8 Governorship election.
Consequently, the party leaders in the Local Govt have been having series of strategic meetings to discuss plans on how to renew the enthusiasm of members and attract new ones so as to clinch victory on the November 8 Governorship election in Anambra State.
Addressing the meeting, Sir Arinzechukwu Awogu, who is the National Coordinator of the Ikemba Front and the party’s director of administration emphasized the importance of stable grassroot mobilization at the polling unit and ward levels to ensure the success of APC’s campaign in Ogbaru LGA.
He said that all the members of the party should focus on grassroots mobilization at the polling unit and ward levels which according to him would help target voters more effectively.
# Paul University, Awka Post Graduate Students of Mass Communication, visited Fides Media on a media production tour.
The students who embarked on the tour, and were led by their lecturer, Dr Azubuike Nkala, were received in the Editorial Department by the Editor-in-Chief, Mr Jude Atupulazi, and the Proofreader, Lady Ifeoma Nwadi.
Dr. Nkala appreciated Fides Media for hosting them, stating that he brought his students for a practical session on newspaper production as he wanted them to see for themselves the things they had been taught theoretically in class.
Mr Atupulazi, explained the function of the Editorial Department, which he described as the gatekeeper, as well as how news was gathered and the various stages the news went through and how they were planned before getting to the printing section.
# One of the opponents of Prof. Chukwuma Soludo in the forthcoming governorship election, and candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Mr John Nwosu, has expressed concern over the alleged derogatory words used against opponents by the Governor Chukwuma Soludo recently.
Soludo had while addressing supporters of All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in a rally at Ekwulobia, Aguata LGA of Anambra State, stated that urchins could not govern a state that produced prominent individuals.
The Governor was also quoted as saying that anyone promising to do one term to abide by the zoning formula in the state needed psychiatric evaluation of their brains.
But Nwosu, reacting to this, said the Governor had merely shown that “passing six is not passing sense”. He said by making that comment, Soludo was only trying to evade being held accountable for his failure in the state.
