Captain Ajibade Says Super Falcons Yet to Receive Tinubu’s $100k WAFCON Pledge

Super Falcons captain, Rasheedat Ajibade, has revealed that the team is yet to receive the $100,000 cash reward and other benefits promised to them by President Bola Tinubu following their victory at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).

Ajibade made the disclosure in an interview with media personality Chude Jideonwo, saying none of the pledges announced after the tournament had been fulfilled.

“We haven’t received our money, but hopefully, they will pay it. All the promises you heard about, we haven’t received anything,” she said in response to a question about the payment.

The Super Falcons, captained by Ajibade, clinched their 10th continental title in Morocco in July. In recognition of the achievement, President Tinubu had pledged $100,000 to each player, awarded them the national honour of Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON), and allocated three-bedroom apartments to them in the Renewed Hope Housing Estate.

The President also promised $50,000 each to members of the technical crew, alongside OON awards and three-bedroom apartments in the same estate.

As of the time of Ajibade’s remarks, neither the players nor the technical team had received any of the promised rewards.
