Prof. Okunna Increases Fund For Ethical Journalism Award In Anambra

The Deputy Vice Chancellor, Paul University and first female professor of Mass Communication in subsaharan Africa, Prof. Chinyere Stella Okunna has announced increment for endowment fund award for Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) in Anambra State.
Angel Network News (ANN) reports that
the annual award, which has produced four winners since inception, aimed at encouraging journalists to behave ethically in their conducts, dressing, writing and association to the society.
Speaking in a press conference recently,
the Chairman, 2025 NUJ Press Week/Man of the Year Awards, Comrade Francis Ekpone, explained that the price money for the award had been increased from N50,000 to N150,000 effective from this year.
According to Ekpone, the award would be presented to the winner at the grand finale of the press week cum Man of the Year award holding on 28 August, 2025 at International Convention centre, Awka.
“We want to thank NUJ Matriarch for initiating Prof. Chinyere Stella Okunna Award for Ethical Journalism. It may interest us to know that Prof. Okunna has increased the price money to N150,000 and this year, first and second runners up shall also be appreciated.
“So, she is spending over N200,000 for the award this year. Prof. Okunna has also promised to provide Two Million Naira endowment fund for sustainability of this award. This is a welcome development and we thank her and the award committee for doing an excellent job,” he stated.
The committee Chairman noted that the wife of Anambra State governor, Dr Mrs Nonye Soludo would be delivering a Keynote address at the event themed “The Media and Our State Anambra: Reportage in Election Year,” while the Guest Speaker would be the State Chairperson, Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), Prof Angela Nwammuo.
It would be attended by over 2000 guests, including governor Chukwuma Soludo; the Chief host and National President, NUJ, Alh. Alhassan Yahya; the State Commissioner for Information, Dr. Law Mefor; the State Chairman, Traditional Rulers Council and Royal father of the day, Igwe Chidubem Iweka; top government functionaries, among other personalities.
Ekpone thanked the State Chairman of NUJ, Dr. Odogwu Emeka Odogwu and his executives, adding that the 2025 NUJ man of the year award would be bestowed on Arch. Okey Ezeobi, the General Manager/Chief Executive Officer of Anambra State Bureau of Public Procurement, while four other personalities would equally receive some awards.
