# Anambra State House of Assembly on Wednesday held a Valedictory Session for the former lawmaker who represented Awka South two Constituency, Late Hon. Onyeka Aghenya.

Late Aghenya was a former Chief Whip from 1999-2003 and the Committee Chairman on Local Government and Chieftaincy matters.

Anambra Assembly Speaker, Rt. Hon. Somtochukwu Udeze who presided plenary, in his tribute, described late Aghenya as a lawmaker and politician with firm principles.

” Late Aghenya Aghenya left us with a good reputation, character and a legacy that reminds us what public should be. On behalf of the 8th Assembly, we extend our health felt condolence to his family, friends and people of Awka South Constituency. May God grant him internal rest”. Udeze prayed.

# The Managing Director of Anambra Broadcasting Service, ABS, Mr. Christopher Molokwu has charged media practitioners to apply ethics in election coverage and their reportage to enhance a better society.

Mr. Molokwu, who made the call while speaking on “Journalistic responses to ethical issues in election coverage: the case of 2025 governorship election in Anambra State” at the empowerment series of the Association of Communication Scholars and Professionals of Nigeria, ACSPN, Anambra State chapter held at Igbariam campus of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, explained how ethical journalism can enhance a better society.

The ABS MD emphasized that unethical practices among journalists like sensationalism, fake news, unbalanced report that stem from lack of training and financial incentives could endanger journalism, and urged journalists to be objective in their reportage and always release credible information on election to the public.

In his remark, the Anambra State Coordinator of the ACSPN, Dr. Gideon Nwafor, explained that the empowerment series, which is themed “Ethics and Innovation in contemporary journalism’s: Navigating election coverage and Entrepreneurial opportunities in Artificial intelligence Era”, was designed to educate student journalists and professionals about emerging trends in mass communication.

# The Chairman Idemili South local government area, Dr. (Mrs) Amaka Obi has condemn the brutal attack on National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member in Oba.

The Mayor while reacting on the viral video of the incident stated that no woman should ever be subjected to such inhumane treatment under any guise.

“It is with deep concern that I condemn in strong terms the abuse and humiliation meted on a serving female corps member in Oba, Idemili South LGA by men of the Anambra State security outfit, Agunaechemba.

“Such a degrading act against a young lady who is serving her fatherland is not only unjustifiable but also a dent in the values of respect, dignity, and protection that security agencies are expected to uphold. No woman, let alone a corps member, should ever be subjected to such inhumane treatment under any guise.” Obi maintained.

# Ten indigent women have received financial support to boost their petty businesses as the people of Enugwu village, Adazi-Enu, in Anaocha Local Government Area celebrated the 2025 New Yam Festival.

Speaking shortly after performing the “iwa ji” rite, the Chairman of Enugwu village, Barr. Jideofor Okongu, who described the festival as one of the core aspects of Adazi-Enu tradition; and that of Ndi Igbo in general, explained that the village uses the annual event to assist the less privileged, and encouraged villagers to remain committed to the growth and development of both the village and the entire Adazi-Enu community.

Barrister Okongu also used the opportunity to appeal to the state government for the construction of the three-kilometre road linking Enugwu Adazi-Enu with Nnokwa and other neighbouring communities, assuring of the people’s unflinching support for the Governor Chukwuma Soludo-led administration and his second-term bid.

# The Media Adviser to Mr. Peter Obi, former Governor of Anambra State and Presidential Candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 general elections, Mr. Valentine Obienyem, has described Mr. John CDO Ikeotuonye as “a very wicked and shameless personality who would stop at nothing, not even crude falsehood, to malign others.”

Obienyem was reacting to Ikeotuonye’s recent comments on the True Talk Podcast, where he alleged, among other things, that Mr. Obi refused to assist former Nigerian football star, Kanu Nwankwo, with money for his heart surgery; that Obi was the highest shareholder in Interfact Breweries; and that he only appointed Catholics into public office during his tenure as Governor of Anambra State.

On the issue of Kanu Nwankwo, Obienyem dismissed the allegation as “not just wicked but satanic.”

He explained that Kanu underwent his heart surgery in 1996, long before Obi became Governor. “It was public knowledge that Inter Milan, Kanu’s club at the time, paid the hospital bills. So, how could anyone with a shred of decency fabricate such lies?

# The State Chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Sir Ifeatu Obi-Okoye, has commended the people of Onitsha North one Constituency and Anambra South Senatorial District for their overwhelming support to the party during the just concluded bye-elections in the state.

Obi-Okoye described the victory recorded at the polls as a clear demonstration of the people’s trust and confidence in APGA as the party that truly represents the interests of Ndi Anambra.

He noted that the massive turnout of voters and their choice to stand with APGA is a testament to the enduring legacy of the party’s founding fathers and the present good governance being championed by Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo.

# ‌‎The Mayor of Njikoka, Barr. Chinedu Ononiba attended the New Yam festival hosted by His Regency, High Chief Dr. Nwachukwu Anakwenze.

The event brought together traditional leaders, residents, stakeholders, and public officials to celebrate a long-standing cultural tradition that symbolizes gratitude, harvest, and community solidarity.

‎In his remarks, the Mayor said:
‎“New Yam festival affirms cultural heritage, unity for collective progress. He also urged Ndi Njikoka to embrace farming to avoid hunger”

‎His Regency, High Chief Dr. Nwachukwu Anakwenze reflected on the significance of the New Yam festival as a unifying force for umuowelle and a reminder of the importance of tradition in guiding progress.

# The Anambra State Government has dismissed eight operatives of the Agunechemba Security Outfit after they assaulted and stripped a female corps member, Miss Jennifer Elobor, in public.

Governor Soludo’s Special Adviser on Community Security, Ken Emeakayi, announced the dismissal on Wednesday at the agency’s Awka headquarters.

He said the government acted swiftly after the disturbing incident. The sacked officers will also be handed over to the police for prosecution.

According to Emeakayi, the operatives claimed they were chasing suspected cultists on Tuesday, but ended up brutalizing the corps member—an action he condemned as shameful and outside their mandate.

# The traditional ruler of Eziagulu-Otu Aguleri, Anambra East Council Area, Igwe Lawrence Nwofia has performed the Alo Nmuo festival of the community amidst pomp and pageantry.

The celebration was also used to thank their gods for giving them fertile lands despite the challenges of flooding that face them.

The event was attended by traditional rulers from different communities in Aguleri and Anambra East Local Government Area, members of the royal cabinet, Ndi Ichie, Ndi Oji-Ana and women of the community.

They were adorned in regalia and paraphernalia and danced in thanksgiving to God as they felicitated Igwe Nwofia.

While performing the kolanut ritual at Ama Okpata, the venue of the event, Igwe Nwofia who is known in the community as “Igwe Ochisgha Eziagulu-Otu” sued for peace with all their neighboring communities, promising that with the mutual understanding and love existing between them, there wouldn’t be intercommunal conflicts again in the area.
