JUST IN: Tinubu Jets Off to Europe for ‘Working Vacation’

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is set to leave Abuja today, September 4, for a 10-day working vacation in Europe, the Presidency confirmed.
The trip, part of his 2025 annual leave, will take him to France and the United Kingdom.
He is expected to spend the next two weeks between the two countries before returning to Nigeria.
In a statement issued on Thursday, Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, explained that the vacation would not be a complete break from work.
According to him, Tinubu will continue to attend to official duties while abroad.
Onanuga stressed that the President remains committed to governance even while on leave.
“The vacation will last 10 working days. During this period, he will be in France and the UK, where he will rest and also continue with some official engagements,” the statement read.
Tinubu’s foreign trips have often drawn public interest, with debates over the balance between official responsibilities and personal rest.
Supporters argue that the President, who has been actively involved in numerous policy reforms since taking office in May 2023, deserves periodic rest.
Critics, however, often question the necessity of extended stays abroad, especially when the country is grappling with pressing economic and security challenges.
Nigeria’s economic climate has been particularly tense in recent months, marked by rising inflation, a weakened naira, and public discontent over the removal of fuel subsidies.
While the government has defended its reforms as necessary for long-term stability, many citizens continue to feel the immediate strain.
Against this backdrop, Tinubu’s vacation is likely to fuel political discussions about leadership priorities.
This is not the first time President Tinubu has taken leave abroad since assuming office.
In previous trips, he has combined rest with diplomatic and investment-related engagements.
Analysts suggest that this vacation could also serve as an opportunity for the President to hold informal talks with European leaders and investors, even if such meetings are not officially listed.
The Presidency, however, insists that the trip should be seen primarily as part of Tinubu’s annual leave.
Officials have urged Nigerians to focus on the broader achievements of the administration rather than speculate about the President’s movements.
Tinubu is expected back in Nigeria later this month to resume full official duties.
Until then, Vice President Kashim Shettima will handle routine matters in consultation with the President where necessary.
As the nation watches, Tinubu’s European working vacation will likely remain a subject of both political scrutiny and public curiosity, underscoring the ever-intense spotlight on Nigeria’s leadership
