How I was betrayed in 2015 — Jonathan

Former President Goodluck Jonathan revealed that he experienced significant betrayal during his 2015 re-election bid, describing Nigerian politics as centered around betrayals.

He made this remark at the 70th birthday celebration of his former Chief of Staff, Chief Mike Aiyegbeni Oghiadomhe, in Benin, Edo State.

Jonathan expressed his disappointment with the lack of dependability among Nigerian politicians, stating: “You will find it difficult to see somebody who says the same thing in the morning, in the afternoon, and in the evening.”

In contrast, he praised Oghiadomhe for his loyalty, saying he is one of the few friends who would “give out their neck” for him and “take a bullet on my behalf”.

Jonathan emphasized that politics in Nigeria is characterized by betrayals, citing his personal experience during the 2015 election.

He noted that most politicians are not dependable, as they often change their stance.

Jonathan commended Oghiadomhe for his unwavering loyalty, describing him as someone whose words can be trusted.

This statement comes amid speculation about Jonathan’s potential return to politics, with some PDP bigwigs calling on him to join the 2027 presidential race.
