Coalition Launches Campaign to Override U.S. Vetoes at U.N. Over Israel

A pro-Palestinian coalition led by former U.S. presidential candidate Dr. Jill Stein has launched an international campaign urging the United Nations to bypass American vetoes shielding Israel at the Security Council.

Dubbed “Lifeline for Palestine,” the coalition held a webinar where ex-UN human rights official Craig Mokhiber outlined the legal foundation for their strategy: invoking the 1950 “Uniting for Peace” mechanism. Under this resolution, if the Security Council fails to act due to vetoes, the General Assembly can step in—requiring a two-thirds majority—to impose measures such as sanctions, arms embargoes, or even a peacekeeping force in Gaza and the West Bank.

Stein urged proactive measures, calling for the establishment of a military embargo, comprehensive sanctions, and a UN war crimes tribunal—comparable to actions taken during the apartheid era in South Africa.
