Fuel Distribution Halts Nationwide as NUPENG-FG Talks with Dangote End in Deadlock

The Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) has suspended fuel loading at depots across the country after efforts by the Federal Government and Dangote Oil to resolve a dispute collapsed late Monday.

Negotiations mediated by the Ministry of Labour and Employment, including officials from Dangote Group, NUPENG, MRS Petroleum, NLC and TUC, failed to yield a Memorandum of Understanding on unionisation at the Dangote Refinery. The meeting stretched into the night but ended in deadlock.

Responding to the impasse, NUPENG enforced the halt nationwide, locking gates at depots in Lagos, Warri, Port Harcourt, Sokoto, and others. Filling stations were shut as unions enforced a complete shutdown of fuel distribution.

PENGASSAN backed NUPENG’s stance and warned it may join the strike, while oil marketers under NOGASA and PETROAN threatened to withdraw services from Tuesday in solidarity if the dispute remains unresolved.

FG Appeals for Calm

Labour Minister Muhammadu Dingyadi appealed for calm, invoking the risk of major disruption to the economy and public welfare due to the shutdown.
