Tension as Gunmen Abduct Army Officer in Delta

Tension has gripped Bomadi Local Government Area of Delta State after gunmen abducted an Army officer identified as Lt.-Col. Josiah.
The officer was reportedly taken from his lodge around 2:30 a.m. on Sunday, September 7, when heavily armed men stormed the Army base, firing shots into the air to scare away residents.
How the Attack Happened
Eyewitnesses said the attackers searched every room in the officers’ lodge, seized all phones from occupants, and whisked the officer away in a waiting vehicle. Blood stains were later found at the scene.
A local source revealed that the officer had earlier attended a wedding ceremony in Kpakiama, a neighboring community, before returning to his Bomadi lodge where the abduction took place.
“The kidnappers came around 2 a.m. They moved from room to room, collected phones, and dragged the officer outside.
They fired shots before speeding away. The next day, we heard the vehicle used in the abduction was abandoned in Tuomo community,” the source told reporters.
The abduction has sparked widespread panic among residents of Bomadi and surrounding communities.
Many fear the military could retaliate against locals in anger. Groups of residents were seen discussing the incident in hushed tones on Tuesday.
A combined team of soldiers from the Joint Task Force (JTF) and vigilantes has since launched a manhunt for the abductors.
Security operatives have combed Bomadi bushes and nearby settlements in search of the officer.
According to locals, the abandoned getaway vehicle was recovered along the Tuomo-Ogbobagbene-Tamigbe-Torugbene-Ojobo road.
It has since been moved to the JTF base in Bomadi-Overside.
Efforts to reach military authorities for official comments proved unsuccessful at press time.
The silence has only fueled speculation and heightened fear in the community.
This incident adds to the growing wave of kidnappings and violent attacks in the Niger Delta.
Analysts warn that the abduction of a senior Army officer marks a dangerous escalation.
Residents now worry that if security agencies fail to act swiftly, such attacks may embolden other criminal gangs in the region.
For now, Bomadi remains on edge as security forces intensify their search for the abducted officer and his kidnappers.
