(DDM) – A commercial motorcycle operator, identified as Monday Mbah, was ambushed and killed by unknown gunmen on Monday evening in Plateau State.
Diaspora Digital Media (DDM) gathered that the tragic incident occurred in Agingi community, Bassa Local Government Area, right at the entrance of the Rukuba Military Barracks.
Eyewitness Mary Hassan confirmed that Mbah was carrying out his routine transport services when armed men suddenly attacked him.
She said the gunmen killed him near the barracks’ gate, seized his motorcycle, and fled into the night.
The shooting took place around 7 pm, with residents reporting a flurry of gunshots that shattered the calm of the community.
Police authorities later confirmed that the victim’s remains had been evacuated from the scene, though details about arrests or suspects remained sketchy.
Spokesman of the Plateau Police Command, Alabo Alfred, was unavailable for comment as at the time of the incident.
The attack has once again highlighted the persistent insecurity plaguing Bassa Local Government Area and surrounding communities in Plateau State.
Despite the heavy military presence, gunmen continue to strike with impunity, even within the shadow of one of the region’s key military installations.
Residents expressed shock that such a violent killing could take place so close to Rukuba Barracks, which is meant to provide security reassurance in the troubled area.
The attack on Mbah is the latest in a growing series of violent incidents that have devastated Plateau communities this year.
In April, over 50 people were massacred in Zikke, Kwall District, also in Bassa, during a night raid attributed to suspected militia groups.

However, residents argue that these measures have had little impact as attackers continue to strike vulnerable communities at will.

Motorcycle operators in particular remain vulnerable as they often move along isolated rural routes where gunmen frequently operate.
