Anambra Assembly Indicts Onitsha South Mayor Over Abuse Of Power

The Anambra State House of Assembly has indicted the Chairman of Onitsha South Local Government Area, Hon. Emeka Orji, for illegal land acquisition, ordering him to stay off a property belonging to Chief Sabest Uchenna Uzoeto and pay for damages.

The Chairman House Committee on Public Petitions, Hon. Obi Nweke while giving a report of the findings at plenary, maintained that the Mayor acted beyond his powers.

Hon. Nweke while speaking, give the following recommendations after presenting the report titled: “Gross destruction of private property belonging to Chief Sabest Uchenna Uzoeto, at 39 Silas road Fegge, Onitsha Anambra State and illegal appropration of same without legal/lawful authority by Chief Emeka Orji, the Executive Chairman of Onitsha local government area”

“The mayor of Onitsha South Local Government Area should stay off Chief Sabest Uchenna Uzoeto property”

” Hon. Emeka Orji should pay Chief Uzoeto for all the items that was sold in the cause of demolishing the said property.

” That a mere local government Chairman cannot and does not have the powers of composery accusation of land for over riding public interest. The only person with such power’s is the governor of the state and therefore, the action of the Chairman is ultra vires his powers”. Hon. Nweke submitted.

Anambra Assembly Speaker Rt. Hon. Somtochukwu Udeze, who presided over plenary, commended the Committee for its thorough investigation, which established that the property belongs to Chief Uzoeto.
