JUST IN: Albania Appoints World’s First AI Minister to Oversee Public Funds

Albania has made history by appointing the world’s first artificial intelligence generated government minister.
Prime Minister Edi Rama announced on Thursday, September 11, that the AI “minister,” named Diella which means sun in Albanian will be responsible for handling all public tenders.
Rama said the move will ensure complete transparency and eliminate corruption in the process.
“Diella is the first government member who is not physically present but virtually created by artificial intelligence,” Rama said during a meeting of his Socialist Party following its landslide May election victory.
The AI system will oversee every stage of the tendering process. Rama stressed that this guarantees “100 per cent corruption-free” decisions and ensures that all public funds used in tenders will be fully transparent.
Launched in January, Diella initially worked as an AI-powered assistant on the official e-Albania platform.
Dressed in a virtual version of traditional Albanian costume, the AI has already helped issue more than 36,600 digital documents and facilitated nearly 1,000 public services.
Rama, now entering his fourth term in office, is set to present his new cabinet to lawmakers soon.
His government has made anti-corruption efforts central to Albania’s push for European Union membership by 2030.
With this bold experiment, Albania becomes the first nation to give artificial intelligence an official cabinet-level role, highlighting both the promise and the debate around AI’s growing influence in governance.
