FG Mandates TRCN Registration for All Teachers Or Risk Losing School Accreditation

The Federal Government (FG) has warned that no individual should teach in Nigerian schools without registration with the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN), declaring that schools employing unregistered teachers risk losing accreditation.

Education Minister Dr Tunji Alausa stated that the government will enforce TRCN registration strictly, especially in secondary schools that serve as WAEC (West African Examinations Council) centres. Schools must ensure all teachers are certified and licensed under TRCN guidelines, or they will be stripped of their status to host public examinations. (Punch, The Journal Ni

Data from TRCN shows over 2.3 million teachers are registered nationwide, but thousands continue to teach without full certification or licenses, particularly in private schools and rural areas. The government has also set up enforcement visits and performance checks to identify and address cases where teacher qualifications do not meet required standards.
